Twisted! is a World Builder adventure by prolific Mac hobbyist author Ray Dunakin, released in the late 1990s. A mysterious twister whisks the player off to the satirical Land of Ooz, a place every bit as strange as Dunakin's earlier Ray's Maze, populated by caricatured political figures of the era.
World Builder Roots
The game is built in Silicon Beach's World Builder, the classic Mac authoring tool that pairs hand-drawn black-and-white illustrations with a verb-driven text parser. Each location is a one-screen scene with descriptive text and clickable command verbs.
Land of Ooz
The titular twister deposits the protagonist in a satirical otherworld whose inhabitants riff on 1990s American politics. Recognizable figures - Clinton, Dole, Perot, Powell - turn up as cartoon characters scattered across the puzzle map.
Adventure Structure
Like other Dunakin works, Twisted! leans on exploration and inventory puzzles. Progress comes from poking at scenes, talking to oddball NPCs, and recombining items to unlock new regions of the map.
Compatibility Notes
Twisted! is a 68k application targeting early System releases through Mac OS 8.6. It runs well in Mini vMac and Basilisk II, which are the practical way to enjoy World Builder games on modern hardware.
