The Adventures of Sean 2.2 is a HyperCard-driven comedy adventure by Andrew Tegelaar of Rancid Tomato, in which you play Sean, a perpetually broke everyman who keeps stumbling into bad situations and conversations with the authorities. The author calls it a wacky interactive cartoon, and the goal is essentially to keep Sean alive long enough to see where the gags end up.
Story and feel
The Info-Mac upload describes the title as a wacky interactive cartoon where you play a character that seems to continuously find himself in bad situations. Macintosh Garden adds the framing that Sean is constantly questioned by authorities and that the player's job is simply to survive and discover what unfolds. Despite being branded as a sequel, no first installment was ever publicly released.
What's new in 2.2
According to the bundled ReadMe, version 2.2 adds the ability to save a game to a file, introduces a menubar, and ships with assorted bug fixes. It is also explicitly noted as running under HyperCard Player, which is what the -hc suffix on the filename signals.
Engine and platform
The game is built in HyperCard and ships as a stack that runs on top of HyperCard or HyperCard Player. Macintosh Garden lists it as a 68k point-and-click adventure compatible with System 6.x through Mac OS 9, in line with HyperCard's own supported range.
Author
Andrew Tegelaar released the title under the Rancid Tomato banner and asked for player feedback by email in the original ReadMe. Macintosh Garden notes a 1996 date for the entry and links to a single screenshot of one of Sean's street scenes.
