Theatre is a 1995 text adventure by Brendon Wyber, published through Cave Rock Software for the classic Macintosh. The story strands you inside an abandoned theatre after a quick errand to retrieve a forgotten pager, then drags a century-old evil out of the wings as you search for a way back to the street.
Story
What begins as a mundane after-hours detour turns into a slow-burn horror as the building's history surfaces. The player pieces together a buried tragedy while navigating dressing rooms, catwalks, and the auditorium itself.
Gameplay
Theatre is pure interactive fiction in the Infocom tradition: a parser-driven, text-only experience built around exploration, inventory puzzles, and careful reading. There are no graphics; atmosphere is conveyed entirely through prose.
Compatibility
The game ships as a BinHex-encoded archive and runs on 68k and PowerPC Macs from System 7.0 through Mac OS 9. It works cleanly under SheepShaver and Basilisk II for modern play.
This file is part of the MacTrove archive. See the Thank You page for the upstream mirrors we rely on. It is BinHex encoded — use The Unarchiver to decode it.
