Space Trek is a first-person adventure where you serve as captain aboard a Starfleet vessel, exploring the galaxy and engaging hostile ships in space combat. Released as shareware in 1997 by Reino Basile, it openly draws on Star Trek conventions for its characters, ship names, and overall flavour.
Gameplay
The game places you in the captain's chair with most instructions delivered in-game rather than through an external manual. You navigate between encounters, manage your starship, and make decisions that shape each adventure scenario.
Star Trek Inspiration
The developer is upfront that the title is a Star Trek homage, so familiar species, ranks, and ship terminology recur throughout. It is best understood as a fan tribute rather than an officially licensed product.
Technical Notes
Built for the Classic Mac OS in the late 1990s, Space Trek runs as a small standalone application using a first-person perspective viewport. It is preserved today as a curiosity from the era when shareware Mac developers frequently produced unauthorised but affectionate genre tributes.
