Micro War (MicroWar / uWar) is a 1999 Mac arcade game by MadDog: a Space Invaders clone reskinned around the Mac-versus-Wintel rivalry. You move a Macintosh icon along the bottom of the screen and shoot upward at descending PC clones while their bombs rain back. This is the freeware French build of v1.0.1.
Space Invaders, restaged
The play field, attack waves, and shelter mechanics are lifted directly from the 1978 Taito original. The novelty is purely thematic: Apple hardware defends the bottom row, Wintel boxes march in formation across the top, and the bonus drops are Apple-flavoured.
Computer industry trivia
Between waves the game serves up facts about Apple products and their competitors, turning the arcade flow into a thin frame for a 1990s history lesson aimed at Mac partisans. The all-time high score of 115,111,535 (held by Alison Hsia of Taiwan) is recorded in the high score table the author distributed with the game.
French localisation
This is the French build, with menus, dialogs, and trivia text translated; an English "International" build (nid 10561) ships the same engine. Both versions share artwork and scoring, so localisation is the only difference between the two downloads.
System requirements
MicroWar requires a PowerPC Mac with Mac OS 7.5.5 or later and QuickTime 2.5 or later for sound and animation. Distribution is freeware; redistribution on CD-ROM compilations was explicitly permitted by the author.
