Dragonoid Tribute is a fan-made set of 50 custom levels for the Mac shareware Breakout/Arkanoid clone Colibricks, recreating the look and challenge of the PC game Dragonoid. The pack itself is the levels file; you need a registered copy of Colibricks installed for the bricks, paddle, and ball to actually appear on screen.
What it is, exactly
Dragonoid Tribute is not a standalone game. It is a Colibricks level pack: 50 hand-built brick layouts that load into the host engine and reproduce the visual style and pacing of the original Dragonoid for PC. Without Colibricks the file does nothing on its own.
Permission and provenance
Submitter Ken Vicki built the tribute with the explicit blessing of Dragonoid's developer, Alan Patterson, so the resemblance to the PC original is intentional rather than accidental. The submission notes are clear that the tribute author has no financial or legal connection to either Colibricks or Dragonoid, it is a fan project shared through Info-Mac.
Gameplay
Colibricks is a Breakout-style brick-and-paddle game in the Arkanoid lineage: bounce a ball off a player-controlled paddle, clear bricks to advance, collect occasional power-ups. The Dragonoid Tribute layouts add a thematic conceit on top of that loop, casting the player as someone who must 'vanquish the dragon before he vanquishes you' across the 50 levels.
Requirements
Colibricks is paid shareware (US$16 at time of release, per the submission), and custom levels only load for users who have registered. Colibricks itself wants Mac OS 8 or higher, QuickTime, around 12 MB of free RAM, and a CPU in the 200 MHz range, though the tribute author noted it remained playable on machines as slow as 150 MHz.
Installation
Decompress the .hqx file, install Colibricks separately if you do not already have it, and place the Dragonoid Tribute level set in the location Colibricks scans for custom level files. Once registered Colibricks loads the pack and the 50 dragon-themed boards appear in the level picker.
