Polybrid 1.0.9 is a falling-block puzzler from STH (ecl.psu.edu) that hybridizes the author's earlier Polytris and Poly-RC. It uses the polyomino piece shapes of Polytris but borrows the color-matching clear rule of Poly-RC, asking players to keep the well from filling up.
Pieces
Polyomino blocks made up of one to four squares drop from the top and lock in place when they touch another block or the floor, giving more varied silhouettes than Poly-RC's plain rows and columns.
Clearing rule
Squares are removed when three or more of the same color line up horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, so color management matters as much as shape fitting.
Family resemblance
Polybrid completes a small trilogy with Polytris and Poly-RC, each exploring a different combination of tetromino-style stacking and color-match elimination.
Distribution
Released through Info-Mac by STH@ecl.psu.edu in the late 1990s as part of an ongoing series of falling-block experiments for the classic Mac.
