EV Credit Hack is a 1996 utility by Jim Fron for Ambrosia Software's Escape Velocity. It is a simple patch, created with ResCompare, that edits a pilot file to grant the player over 1.5 billion credits, removing all economic pressure from the game in a single click.
What it does
The patch rewrites the credits field of an Escape Velocity pilot save so the player ends up with more than 1.5 billion credits. That is enough to hire fleets of escorts and buy any ship upgrade or weapon the game offers.
How it was built
The author used ResCompare to diff a modified pilot file against the original and produce a reusable patch, a common Classic Mac approach to small save-game edits without writing a dedicated editor.
Caveats
The author warns that game experience may be ruined and to use it at your own risk. It is preserved on Macintosh Garden alongside the rest of the early Escape Velocity tooling community.
