G's and J's Maelstrom Sounds is a fan-made sound pack for Ambrosia Software's Maelstrom, the classic Mac asteroids-style shooter. Recorded by Psychotic Space Boy (spaceboy@netspace.org) and his friend Josh using a PlainTalk microphone and SoundEdit, the set replaces Maelstrom's stock effects with the duo's homemade vocal and noise samples.
What It Is
A drop-in sound replacement archive for Maelstrom, sitting alongside other community packs in the Info-Mac arc directory such as ska-sounds, marathon-sounds, ggl-snds, and kevs-sounds.
Tools Used
The authors recorded the samples with Apple's PlainTalk microphone and edited them in Macromedia SoundEdit, a typical mid-1990s Mac multimedia toolchain.
Licensing
Explicitly declared freeware by the authors, with permission to redistribute widely and to include on CD-ROM compilations of the era.
