About

Frog Xing is a 1995 Frogger clone for the classic Mac by James Shaw of Shaw Software, distributed via Quarter Note Software. Guide a frog across a busy highway and a hazard-strewn river to reach docks on the far side, picking up bonuses for extra points along the way.

Gameplay

The author's release notes call it a tribute to "one of the most cherished and beloved arcade games of all time: Frogger." The Macintosh Garden entry agrees, noting players cross highways and rivers while collecting bonuses, with classic arcade-style graphics, sound effects, and pacing aimed at both casual players and arcade veterans.

Look and feel

Frog Xing is described as having "a nostalgic look to it, with a tip of the hat to the classic arcade games," pairing both traditional and new sound effects with what the author calls a "hopping music score." The presentation is tuned to feel familiar to anyone who grew up with the original cabinet.

System requirements

The release ships for System 7.0 or later, prefers a 68040 Mac, and asks for a 640x480 display in at least 16 colors or grays, Sound Manager 3.0, 2.5 MB of RAM, and 1.2 MB of disk. The cataloged build is 68k Macintosh and runs under Mac OS up to 9 and on SheepShaver.

Shareware terms

Frog Xing is distributed as shareware with a $15 registration fee. The Info-Mac copy is a single .hqx (frog-xing-16.hqx, here version 1.6) submitted by James Shaw from his Princeton CS account.
