About

Cataloged in Info-Mac as Palace, this archive holds Louise Hope's World Builder adventure Palace of Sand (also known as The Sultan's Palace). It is a 1996 text-and-illustration tale in which the player chases an adventuring companion eastward to the Sultan's palace in search of his daughter.

A World Builder Adventure

Palace of Sand is built with World Builder, the classic Macintosh engine for illustrated text adventures. Movement and interaction are driven by clicks and typed verbs, and each location is presented with hand-drawn artwork alongside descriptive prose.

An Arabian Fantasy

The setting picks up after an earlier outing called The Tower. Jake, the player's friend, has wandered off again, this time toward the Sultan's palace. When he fails to turn up at the marketplace as agreed, the player goes after him through a palace populated by human and not-so-human occupants.

Color and Black-and-White Builds

Macintosh Garden lists both color and monochrome World Builder versions. The color edition expects a 12-inch or larger monitor with 256 or more colors and Color QuickDraw, while the black-and-white build runs on the wider System 7.0 through Mac OS 8.6 range on 68k hardware.

Distribution

The Info-Mac copy ships as palace.hqx, a BinHex 4.0 archive posted by Lucy24 with the subject Palace of Sand. The Macintosh Garden listing notes a long preservation history, with material dated between 1996 and 2016.
