About

3D Brick Bash is Matthew Diamond's 1993 take on Breakout for the Classic Mac, swapping the flat 2D playfield for a dimensional perspective in which the ball travels away from the paddle into a receding wall of bricks. Released as Mac shareware, it targets 68k systems through Mac OS 9.

Gameplay

Players slide a paddle to deflect a ball into stacked bricks, clearing the field while keeping the ball in play. Hitting the ball near the paddle's edges sends it off at a steep angle; striking dead center returns it straight up the lane.

The 3D twist

Rather than the side-on view used by classic Breakout and Arkanoid, 3D Brick Bash renders the brick wall in perspective, asking the player to read depth as well as horizontal position when timing each return.

Compatibility

The game runs on real 68k and PowerPC Macs and on emulators including SheepShaver, Basilisk II, Mini vMac, and QEMU-PPC, though some users report graphics glitches under Basilisk II.
