The Eleventh Hour Patch is a small fix released in October 1999 by a developer using the address tempest@ecst.csuchico.edu, intended for Trilobyte's The 11th Hour, the sequel to The 7th Guest. It addresses a display problem on Macintoshes that cannot switch to a native 640x480 resolution.
The Problem It Solves
On machines such as the PowerBook 3400, The 11th Hour opens a full-screen white window with the game inset against it, producing a glaring border that the patch author describes as annoying and eye-fatiguing during play.
What the Patch Changes
The patch rewrites the game so that the surrounding window is drawn black rather than white, and bumps the vers resource to indicate version 1.0.1. The original routine that was patched is also included for reference.
Compatibility and Caveats
The author tested the patch on Mac OS 9.0 and distributes it with no warranty, asking that it be used at the player's own risk. It is intended only for owners of a legitimate copy of The 11th Hour from Trilobyte and Virgin Interactive.
