Cribbage is a 1992 card-game adaptation by Chris Christensen, published by Elegant Solutions and best known to Macintosh Garden visitors as the work of the same author behind Columns ][. It brings the classic peg-and-pair scoring game to vintage Macs in a tidy top-down layout that runs cleanly on black-and-white or color displays.
The game
Players face the computer in a standard two-handed match: the deal, the crib, the pegging round, and the show all play out as in the pub-and-parlor original, with the Mac handling shuffling, scoring, and the long count to 121.
Author and lineage
Chris Christensen released Cribbage under the Elegant Solutions banner in 1992, the same micro-label that distributed his earlier puzzler Columns ][. Both titles share a clean, restrained 68k presentation typical of early-90s shareware.
Compatibility
The build is a 68k application targeting System 6.x through Mac OS 8.1, runs equally well in monochrome and color, and is verified by the Garden community to load under Basilisk II and Mini vMac for modern emulation.
Why it endures
Cribbage scores the rare 4-out-of-5 community rating because it does one thing well: a faithful, unembellished card opponent that respects the rules and the player's time, with no padding or chrome.
