About

Expert Blackjack 4.0 is a sophisticated Blackjack simulator and trainer for classic Macintosh, distributed via Info-Mac by zed97@concentric.net. It recreates a casino with a six-seat table where chips slide to the winner after each hand, while bundling card-counting drills, strategy testers, and even AI experiments built around genetic algorithms and learning agents.

Training Tools

The application is pitched explicitly at players who want to play better rather than just play. It supports practising basic strategy, testing variant strategies head-to-head, and rehearsing card counting, with feedback aimed at moving the user toward casino-grade decision-making. The author frames it as a serious trainer wrapped in a casino-style interface.

Simulation

Expert Blackjack can project the long-run outcome of a chosen strategy in Las Vegas conditions, reporting expected win or loss and drawing a histogram of the distribution of outcomes across many simulated sessions. This turns the program into a quantitative testbed for any house-rules-aware Blackjack system the user wants to evaluate.

Artificial Intelligence

Two AI routines ship with the simulator: a genetic algorithm and a learning-agent module. Both let the player explore whether a computer can teach itself to play Blackjack from scratch, an unusually research-flavoured feature for a late-1990s Mac shareware card game and a clear marker of the author's interest in machine learning.

System Requirements

Expert Blackjack 4.0 supports Macintosh G4, G3, PowerPC, and 68K systems running System 7 or higher. Minimum memory is 2 MB with a 6 MB cap, and the program needs roughly 1.7 MB of disk space, making it comfortable to keep installed on the modest hard drives of the era.
