Hearts Dinos is an opponent character pack for Freeverse Software's shareware card game Hearts Deluxe. It seats the player across the table from a roster of terrible thunder lizards, swapping the default human avatars for prehistoric reptiles during the classic four-handed trick-taking game of Hearts.
An Add-On, Not a Standalone
The package is not a complete game on its own. It requires the shareware Hearts Deluxe application, which Freeverse distributed from www.freeverse.com and which Macintosh Garden preserves as a 1994 release by Ian Lynch Smith for System 7 era Macs. The Dinos set installs into the same folder as the Hearts Deluxe app.
A Freeverse Classic
Hearts Deluxe was Freeverse's inaugural product and a fixture of Mac shareware sites during the late 1990s. A Ziff-Davis MacUser blurb quoted in the release notes calls it a card game thats this much fun, and the dinosaur opponents lean into the publisher's long tradition of irreverent character art.
Distribution Notes
The Info-Mac upload, hearts-dinos.hqx, was filed under game/crd and bundles the dino opponent assets with documentation. Release notes call out a more intelligent naming scheme and updated contact information compared to earlier opponent-pack uploads from Freeverse.
