This entry covers Gypsy King Software's Blackjack Gold v1.10 — the early Mac OS X (Carbon) port of the long-running shareware blackjack simulator that began life on Classic Mac OS. Functionally it mirrors the Classic build's casino-style 21 game with deep rule customization and card-counting drills, but compiled to run natively under Mac OS X 10.x rather than through the Classic environment.
What changed in the X port
The 1.10 X branch was the first OS X-native release in the Blackjack Gold line, replacing the earlier Classic Mac binary with a Carbon application that launched directly on Mac OS X. The gameplay engine, rule options, and dealer logic were carried over largely intact; what shifted was the runtime, window management, and audio path so the title would coexist with other OS X applications without booting Classic.
Gameplay carryover
As in the Classic version, the player sits at a table with up to seven seats, configures the number of decks and shuffle behavior, and plays standard hit / stand / double / split / surrender / insurance actions. Strategy-test prompts and Hi-Lo style card-count practice are preserved, so the title continues to function as both a casino simulator and a training tool.
Version context
The 1.10 X label sits early in the OS X line. Later 1.2.x updates introduced Vista and Macintel compatibility, and 1.3.x added OSX Leopard fixes and additional table sizes for larger displays. The 1.10 X build therefore represents the OS X line at its initial Carbon release, useful for preservation on PowerPC OS X 10.2-10.4 systems where the later Intel-targeted updates would not run.
Distribution and legacy
Gypsy King distributed the OS X build as shareware through gypsyware.com alongside Windows and Classic builds. The studio retired in April 2022 after 22 years of releases, ending registration and support; archived OS X disk images now circulate through Macintosh Garden and Macintosh Repository for emulator and PowerPC use.
