Name Generator is a small freeware utility by Tim North, released in 1994, that produces random names suitable for tabletop role-playing games or fiction writing. Version 1.1 improved the quality of generated words over the original release. The author asked only for a postcard in lieu of payment.
Purpose
Quickly invent plausible-sounding names for RPG characters, NPCs, or novel drafts without manual brainstorming. The tool is positioned as a "quick hack" rather than a polished product.
Author
Tim North of the Department of Computer Engineering, Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia (TNORTHTJ@cc.curtin.edu.au).
Version 1.1 Notes
This release improves the quality of generated words versus the initial version.
