Bet Your Booty is a Classic Mac OS shareware word game by Gypsy King Software, the studio of Sharon Delarose, that crosses Hangman with Wheel of Fortune. Players guess letters in a hidden word or phrase, place bets on the outcome, and face an offbeat consequence when they lose. The full version registers for USD 19.95.
Gameplay
Each round reveals a row of blanks for the target word or phrase. The player calls letters, just like Hangman, but also wagers virtual currency on whether they will solve the puzzle in time. Correct guesses cash in; misses bleed the bankroll.
The losing twist
The game's signature feature is what happens when you fail to solve the puzzle. Gypsy King teased it as a new twist on losing, and the surprise consequence is the running gag the title is built around, distinguishing it from straight Hangman ports.
Word lists
Players are not stuck with the bundled vocabulary. Bet Your Booty supports user-added word lists, so households and classrooms can drop in custom themed sets, from movie titles to vocabulary drills, without recompiling anything.
Publisher and platform
Gypsy King Software shipped Mac and Windows shareware for twenty-two years before retiring in 2022. Bet Your Booty was part of that catalog, distributed from gypsyware.com and bundled on Info-Mac under game/word as bet-your-booty.hqx.
