Mindscope's Word Trilogy is a $20 shareware compilation by Mindscope Software, copyright 1998-1999, bundling three distinct word-puzzle games into a single Macintosh package. Players form words from scrambled letter tiles, catch colored bonus blocks, and race against descending walls of letters across the three modes.
Three games in one
The compilation's three modes give it variety across play styles. Scrolling Challenge is the speed mode: pick out as many valid words as possible from letter tiles that fall faster and faster as you progress. Under the Red is the slow, strategic mode: clear all of the tiles above a marked red line on the playfield without letting the tile pile cross it. Red Line Fever is the hectic third entry: every word you score pushes a descending red bar back upward, keeping you above the line of defeat.
Distribution and licensing
Released as shareware in late 1998 / 1999 by Mindscope Software (contact: mindscope@ashtonservices.com) with a $20 unlock fee. The included notice required CD-ROM and magazine cover-disc compilers to notify the author before redistributing the program in their media, a fairly typical late-1990s Mac shareware clause.
