Apronyms by Angela Brett is a small Mac OS X word-game utility that lets you browse the apronym collection from the apronyms.com web site without an internet connection, while also letting you compose, store, and share your own contributions to the form.
What is an apronym
An apronym is a phrase that not only spells out an existing word with its initial letters but whose expansion also describes or relates to that word, turning the acronym back on itself as a self-referential definition.
Offline browsing and authoring
The application caches the online catalog locally so the full collection can be read without network access. Users can add new apronyms to a personal list, keep them private, or submit them to be considered for inclusion on the public web site.
Sync and sharing
Updated apronym sets can be downloaded from the web site at any time without overwriting the user's own additions, and individual apronyms or whole lists can be exported to plain text files for sharing with friends.
Version notes
The Info-Mac release archived here is Apronyms 0.92, an OS X build whose changes include a fix for merging in fresh apronyms from the web site and a rename of the main window and application menu from "Acronyms" to "Apronyms."
