Babel, Release 3.1, is a shareware text adventure by Ian Finley, distributed for Macintosh in an Inform-style interpreter package and submitted to Info-Mac by Andrew Plotkin (erkyrath@eblong.com). The download is free; players who enjoy it are asked to register for to Illuminated Design in Salt Lake City, Utah.
About the game
Babel is an interactive-fiction text adventure presented in the classic command-parser style. The Mac edition bundles the story with an interpreter so the game runs as a normal Mac application rather than requiring a separate Z-machine or Glulx host.
Shareware terms
The game is fully playable without paying. Registration is by check to Ian Finley at Illuminated Design, 1761 E. Yale Ave., Salt Lake City, UT 84108. Registered users receive a certificate, Babel feelies, and a free copy of the planned multimedia follow-up Babel: Deluxe.
System requirements
Mac OS 7.0 or later and roughly 1.6 MB of free memory. For System 6, non-Mac platforms or alternative interpreters, the read-me points users to ftp://ftp.gmd.de/if-archive/, the canonical interactive-fiction archive.
Submitter
The Info-Mac upload was submitted by interactive-fiction author Andrew Plotkin (erkyrath@eblong.com), better known in IF circles as Zarf.
