Fortune Puzzles is a 1999 Macintosh freeware game from Gypsy King Software in which players solve puzzles to summon Madame Murghi, a fortune-telling character who rises 'from the murky depths' to deliver readings. Her sense of humor is wicked, and the fortunes she dispenses can be flattering or face-puckering.
Gameplay
Each completed puzzle triggers an appearance from Madame Murghi, who reads the player's fortune. Outcomes range from pleasant predictions to comically harsh judgments, and the developer specifically calls out a 'trick puzzle' to watch for.
Author and distribution
The game was released by Shari at Gypsy King Software (shari@stsi.net) and was distributed both through the author's website at stsi.net/~gypsy/gamepage and via the Info-Mac archive as fortune-puzzles-12.hqx. It is freeware rather than shareware.
Tone and humor
The accompanying release notes lean into a tongue-in-cheek voice ('bwa ha ha ha ha ha!'), framing Madame Murghi as a deliberately mischievous fortune teller and warning players not to upset her.
