About

Bushka is a two-player abstract board game by Dutch designer Christian Freeling, distributed on Info-Mac as part of his self-displaying archive of original strategy games. The Info-Mac release packages the rules and a playable presentation so readers can explore the game without any extra software installed on the Macintosh.

Christian Freeling's design

Freeling is best known for inventing modern abstracts such as Havannah, Grand Chess, and Emergo; Bushka sits in his catalogue alongside those titles as a compact two-player contest of position and capture.

Abstract Games book

The download is one chapter of Abstract games by Christiaan Freeling, a book in seven parts grouped into chess variants, elimination, territorial, connection, and bead-capturing games, each chapter shipping as its own self-contained archive.

Companion tutor

A separate Info-Mac release, Bushka Tutor 1.1 by ed@mindsports.net, adds rules, strategy and tactics chapters, problems with solutions, and annotated sample games, delivered as HTML with Java applets for any Java-enabled web browser of the era.

Self-displaying archive

Like Freeling's other Info-Mac chapters, the Bushka package is a stand-alone presentation file, requiring no helper application beyond the classic Mac OS itself.
