MacIago X 3.5 by ChrisLi is a freeware Mac OS X strategy game based on the classic Othello / Reversi board game. Its name and design are an explicit homage to the 1984 Macintosh game Iago by David Reed, carrying that lineage forward into a modern multilingual release.
How play works
Two sides take turns placing pieces on a grid, attempting to enclose runs of the opponent's pieces between their own. Every enclosed piece in any of the eight directions is converted to the player's color, and each move must result in at least one capture or be skipped.
Multilingual package
A single application bundle includes Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Catalan, and English versions, allowing the interface and rule presentation to be switched without installing separate downloads.
Platform notes
MacIago 3 targets Mac OS X exclusively. Players still on Mac OS 9 or earlier are directed to the older MacIago 2.5 release, which covers the same Othello/Reversi rule set on classic Mac systems.
Distribution
The game is distributed as freeware. The Info-Mac copy under board games carries the file name maciagox-35.hqx and is contributed by the author at ChrisLi@Bridge1.com.
