Game of the Winds is Martin Cordsmeier's Shanghai-style tile solitaire for the Classic Mac, with releases from 1998 through 2002. The title translates the Chinese name Pung Chow, and the game brings standard matching-tiles solitaire to System 7 and Mac OS 9 in colour or black-and-white.
Gameplay
The board is a stacked layout of tiles. Players remove pairs of matching tiles that are free on at least one side and unblocked from above, working to clear the entire pile. Skill lies in choosing which pair to take when several matches are visible.
Versions
Three releases are catalogued: 2.2e in English (2002), 2.1e in English (1998), and 2.1d in German (1998). The 2002 build is the most polished of the three.
System requirements
Game of the Winds runs on 68K and PowerPC Macs under Mac OS 7 through 9. The author recommends a 256-colour display for the best look but supports black-and-white for older monitors.
About this entry
This record is the sibling listing to nid 11328 for the same program. Both refer to the same Pung Chow port; the records differ only in catalog packaging.
