Chess Album is a tiny HyperCard 2 stack from 1992, distributed by Mark Zimmermann (science@oasys.dt.navy.mil) as a roughly 6 KB compacted, BinHexed download. It is intended for recording correspondence chess games: drag pieces around a board and type moves into a field on the card.
Origin
The stack was posted in November 1992 and circulated through the Info-Mac archive in the board-games (brd) category as chess-album-10-hc.hqx.
What it does
Provides a graphical chess board with draggable pieces plus a text field for move notation, suitable for tracking games played by mail, email, or over the phone.
Requirements
HyperCard 2.x. The original distribution was a Compact Pro archive wrapped in BinHex 4.0 and is small enough to run on any HyperCard-capable Macintosh of the era.
Author
Mark Zimmermann (science@oasys.dt.navy.mil), better known in the Mac community for the TextSearch and other early Mac information-retrieval tools.
Scope
The author describes it as "very simple stuff (in HyperCard!)" and it is offered as-is rather than as a polished product.
