Geographax is a HyperCard stack for the classic Macintosh that draws on a pool of about 2,000 unusual geography questions to quiz the player. Authored by hearth@ctol.net and distributed via Info-Mac, it is aimed at a broad audience that ranges from middle-school students through serious geography buffs.
What it is
Built as a HyperCard stack rather than a standalone application, Geographax presents selected items from its 2,000-question bank in a self-paced format. The stack format made it easy to redistribute and to open on any Mac with HyperCard installed.
Audience
The author specifically pitches the stack at a wide range of users, calling out younger players around middle-school age at one end and dedicated geography enthusiasts at the other.
Version 1.1
The version archived on Info-Mac is 1.1, described in its own posting as a follow-up to 1.0 that corrects typos and other minor errors. Users are advised to replace the earlier release with this update.
Distribution
Geographax circulated as geographax-11.hqx on Info-Mac in BinHex form, fitting the educational-HyperCard niche common on the platform in the 1990s.
