Beached drops you onto a small tropical island after a mysterious boating accident, turning what looks like paradise into a fight for survival as a hurricane bears down on your sandy refuge. Marc Boxall's 1998 strategy game asks you to forage food, chop wood, build a boat, and grab the gold scattered across the shore before the storm wipes the map clean.
Premise
You wake up shipwrecked with nothing but the beach beneath you and the threat of weather closing in. Survival comes first, escape comes second, and a little greed on the way out is entirely optional.
Gameplay
Resource management drives every decision. Food keeps you alive, wood becomes the boat that gets you home, and the clock is the hurricane that ends the run if you dawdle.
Author
Designed and released by Marc Boxall in 1998 for Classic Mac OS, distributed through the era's shareware channels and preserved today on Macintosh Garden.
Legacy
Beached spawned a sequel, Beached II, which expanded the survival loop with new hazards while keeping the original's stranded-on-an-island hook intact.
