Digital Vendetta is a 1995 two-player Classic Mac arcade game by Mattias Sundstrom, in the long tradition of artillery duels: two cannons sit on a deformable landscape and players trade shots, adjusting angle and power to lob projectiles over the terrain. This entry packages a patch for the original pre-release build.
What the patch is
This download is an update for an existing installation of Digital Vendetta rather than a standalone game. The original release was distributed by the author as a pre-release; the patch addresses issues in that build. You will need a working copy of the base game to apply it.
How it plays
The base game is a turn-based artillery duel for two human players sharing a Mac. Each turn you set a firing angle and power for your cannon; the projectile arcs across a hand-drawn landscape that takes damage from each impact, slowly reshaping the battlefield until one cannon is destroyed.
System requirements
Digital Vendetta and its patch target Classic Mac OS, with documented compatibility from System 7.0 through Mac OS 9. The download is distributed as a BinHex (.hqx) archive of roughly 750 KB; on modern hardware it runs under Mini vMac, Basilisk II, or SheepShaver depending on the host Mac OS version chosen.
Installation
Decode the .hqx file with StuffIt Expander inside Classic Mac OS, then follow the patch's bundled ReadMe to apply the update to your Digital Vendetta folder. Back up the original application before patching in case you want to roll back.
