Mac Invaders is a 1995 Space Invaders clone for the Power Macintosh, written by hallan@origin.demon.co.uk and credited on Macintosh Garden to BoneHead Projects. The Info-Mac release mac-invaders-110.hqx is a 1.10 beta that promises a long beta cycle but ships ray-traced sprites, digitised sound, and full key configuration.
Gameplay
Mac Invaders follows the classic Space Invaders template: a descending grid of aliens, a ground-bound ship that slides horizontally and fires upward, and progressive waves that get faster as the formation thins out.
Two-player modes
The game offers two distinct two-player modes alongside solo play. Combined with full key configuration, this lets a pair of players share one keyboard or mix mouse and keyboard control to suit each player.
Presentation
Sprites are pre-rendered as ray-traced art and the soundtrack uses digitised samples rather than synthesised beeps. The Macintosh Garden listing notes a 256-colour display and Sound Manager 3.0 as minimum requirements.
System requirements
Power Macintosh with System 7.5 and 8 MB of RAM, per the BinHex header. High scores are remembered between sessions, and the player can choose mouse or keyboard control.
