Tarot is a French-language implementation of the classic French trick-taking card game for the Classic Mac OS, written by Herve Vaudrey and released in 1995. It runs on System 7.0 through 7.6 on both 68k and PowerPC Macintoshes, and remains playable today under Basilisk II or Mini vMac II.
The card game
French Tarot is a four- or five-player trick game played with a 78-card Tarot deck. Bidders compete for the dog (chien) and the right to declare a contract, with the Excuse and bouts shaping scoring.
Mac implementation
The program presents a tableau-style table view with cards rendered for the small color and grayscale displays of the era. The interface and dialog text are in French.
System requirements
System 7.0 to 7.6 on a 68k or PPC Macintosh. The download is a single BinHex StuffIt archive of roughly 450 KB, well-suited to floppy distribution.
Sibling release
A separate Tarot 1.0 US English-language release is cataloged alongside this entry for English-speaking players.
