Space Garbage Men is a shareware arcade shooter set in the 30th century, where intergalactic war has reduced the universe to a radioactive wasteland. You pilot a cleanup ship across hostile planets, scooping up glowing debris while blasting alien threats and dodging asteroid storms.
Gameplay
Each level tasks you with collecting radioactive garbage scattered across the surface while fending off enemies that swarm your ship. Hidden caves reward exploration with bonus pickups, and asteroid-avoidance bonus stages break up the action.
Boss Battles
Every fifth level pits you against a boss alien, escalating the difficulty with larger sprites, denser projectile patterns, and unique attack routines. Surviving the encounter unlocks the next cluster of garbage-strewn worlds.
Origins and Distribution
The game was developed by Jorge Arroyo Gonzalez and published by Makasoft in 2000, near the tail end of the Classic Mac OS shareware scene. It targets late-era Mac systems and runs in a windowed arcade format typical of the era.
Legacy
As an obscure late-period release, Space Garbage Men is preserved on Macintosh Garden alongside other Makasoft titles. Its blend of shoot-em-up and pickup mechanics makes it a small but distinctive entry in the indie Mac arcade catalogue.
