Ghost Runner is a fan-made level pack for the classic Macintosh editions of Lode Runner, the gold-gathering platform-puzzle game originally designed by Doug Smith and published by Broderbund. It belongs to the broad community of user-authored Lode Runner board sets that circulated on Mac shareware channels.
The host game
Lode Runner is a single-screen action-puzzler in which the player collects every piece of gold on a level while avoiding guards, using a digging tool to punch temporary holes in the floor to trap them.
Level packs on the Mac
The later Mac engines, Lode Runner: The Legend Returns and Lode Runner On-Line: The Mad Monks' Revenge, expose a level-group format that allowed players to author and trade custom map collections like Ghost Runner.
Distribution
Packs of this kind were typically shared as small downloads on bulletin boards, user-group disks, and later Mac shareware sites, intended to be dropped into the host game's levels folder.
