Sokoban Level Editor 3.5 is a HyperCard-based design tool by F. Stadler that lets you build and edit puzzles for the classic Sokoban warehouse-pushing game on the Macintosh. It targets multiple Sokoban variants and uses a paint-style interface, so laying out walls, crates, and goal squares feels closer to drawing than to coding a level.
Multi-format Authoring
The editor reads and writes levels for Sokoban 3D, MacSokoban, MacSokoban modules, and Windows Sokoban's SOKOBAN.INI file. That cross-format reach made it useful as a bridge between the Mac and PC Sokoban communities of the mid-1990s, when level packs were traded over Info-Mac and BBSes.
Paint-style Interface
According to the author, the interface is modeled on familiar Mac paint software: pick a tile (wall, floor, crate, target, player) and stamp it onto the grid. Existing levels can be loaded and tweaked rather than rebuilt from scratch, which lowers the barrier for casual designers.
Export Options
Finished puzzles can be saved as plain TEXT files, exported directly into Sokoban 3D level sets, or written into a MacSokoban module. Single levels can also be round-tripped as text and pasted into a Windows SOKOBAN.INI for play under PC Sokoban.
HyperCard Distribution
The editor ships as a HyperCard stack and runs under HyperCard or HyperCard Player, which were widely deployed on classic Macs. It was distributed as freeware on Info-Mac under game/com/.
