Outland Hearts

Outland Hearts is a Classic Mac implementation of the trick-taking card game Hearts, distributed as shareware through the same channels that carried dozens of solitaire and card variants for System 7 and Mac OS 8. Like other Mac Hearts ports of its era, it pits a single human player against three computer opponents over a series of hands.

Standard Hearts rules

Play follows the familiar Hearts ruleset: avoid taking heart tricks and the queen of spades, with the option to shoot the moon by capturing every penalty card in a single hand for a swing in the score.

Classic Mac presentation

The game uses the standard Mac toolbox interface, with menu-driven controls, a green felt table, and bitmap card faces sized for the small color and grayscale displays common on mid-1990s Macs.

Solo play against the computer

A human player sits opposite three AI opponents who follow the usual passing and trick-play conventions, making it a self-contained way to learn or practice the game without a four-person table.

Shareware distribution

Outland Hearts circulated through Mac shareware archives of the period and is preserved today alongside other small card and parlour games from the Classic Mac catalogue.
