Astrostein is a celebrated Wolfenstein 3D scenario for the Macintosh by Laz Rojas, recasting the original FPS as a science-fiction firefight aboard a Nazi-occupied space station. It was one of the standout entries among Rojas' Mac-only Wolfenstein scenarios and inspired two sequels.
Sci-Fi Conversion of Wolfenstein 3D
Where the original game prowled a stone fortress, Astrostein swaps in metallic corridors, control rooms, and zero-atmosphere set dressing. The Third Reich has reached the stars, and the player fights room by room through their off-world installation.
Part of Laz Rojas' Mac Wolfenstein Legacy
Astrostein sits among the Deluxe Scenarios in Rojas' broader Mac Wolfenstein body of work. It debuted as shareware before transitioning to freeware, and was later joined by Astrostein 2 and Astrostein 3.
Mac-First, Eventually Cross-Platform
For most of its life Astrostein ran only on the Mac port of Wolfenstein 3D. In 2015 a community fix made it playable on PC via the ECWolf source port, opening the scenario to a wider audience.
System Requirements
Astrostein requires the Mac Wolfenstein 3D engine and runs on System 6.x through Mac OS 9, with both 68k and PowerPC support.
