Read Me — HyperDither 1.3 May 17, 2009 http://www.tinrocket.com/software/hyperdither/ Author: John Balestrieri, Tinrocket, LLC Introduction What does HyperDither do? Short Answer: HyperDither implements the "Atkinson" dithering matrix as an OS X application. Long Answer: HyperDither is an OS X image processing utility that converts color or grayscale images to 1 bit black & white using a sophisticated dithering routine. Specifically, HyperDither implements the “Atkinson” dithering filter. Years ago, during the development of the first Macintosh, Bill Atkinson (of HyperCard, QuickDraw, MacPaint & now nature photography fame) discovered a very elegant dithering filter to convert greyscale image data to the 1 bit black & white Mac video display. The dithering produced by this routine was much higher quality than the now-a-days ubiquitous Floyd-Steinberg or “Error-diffusion” filter (used by QuickTime, PhotoShop). The dither matrix was implemented as an option in Appleʼs long-lost HyperScan software (A HyperCard stack with some XCMDs/XFCNs) that would connect an early Mac to a flatbed scanner. HyperScan, and hence the most-excellent Atkinson dithering routine, has been unavailable for many, many years — but not forgotten! I was able to email Bill Atkinson in January, 2003 and inquire about the details of the algorithm; he was kind enough to respond with a brief write up of the routine — 15 minutes later I had it up and running. Itʼs taken a few spare afternoons since 2003 to pack everything into a nice little application with documentation and an icon — better late than never! *The implementation is not as efficient as the original assembly language code, since it was written in a higher-level language and compiled without optimizations. That said, it should still be plenty fast enough. Pricing The cost of HyperDither is $0.00. (Free to use and own, but not in the public domain) System Requirements HyperDither was developed on OS X 10.4.10 through 10.5.7 — earlier system versions back to OS X 10.3 should work, but have not been tested. HyperDither is a Universal application, which means it will run natively on PowerPC and Intel Macs. Installation Drag the HyperDither application icon to your Applications folder. Usage HyperDither is pretty straight-forward to use. Launch it and drag or paste an image into the main window! If the picture you've pasted in is bigger than the window, the mouse cursor will turn to a hand cursor and let you scroll the image. A few menu options will now be available: File Menu: New Window — Makes a new HyperDither window for you to paste/drag images or a drag folder into. Open — Select an image for processing Batch Process a Folder — Select a folder for batch dithering. Once you select your folder, you will be prompted for the save location. The batch processed images will be placed into a new folder. Save — Saves the current HyperDither image as a PNG file in the location of your choosing. Options m…

Farallon Computing, Inc. Replica for Macintosh Release Notes January 13, 1994 These release notes are a Replica copy of a Microsoft Word document. To scan for specific information, use the Find command in the Search menu. The following information does not appear in the Replica for Macintosh User’s Guide. If you have questions, call Farallon Technical Support at (510) 814-5000. The release notes cover the following topics: • General information about the features of Replica. • Problems you may experience when using Replica with specific applications. Solutions or work-arounds are provided where possible. General Information Cross-platform sharing of Replica copies Replica documents can be viewed by users of Replica for Macintosh or Replica for Windows, regardless of which version of Replica was used to create the Replica document. For best results, be sure to use Replica for Windows 1.0.1 on Windows PCs. You can always open a Replica document from within the Replica for Macintosh Viewer application. Just choose Open from the File menu, select the desired file in the directory dialog box, and click the Open button. While you can double-click the icon for a Macintosh-created Replica document in the Finder in order to launch the Replica Viewer and open the file automatically, there are some instances where Replica for Windows-created documents cannot be opened and viewed automatically by double-clicking on their icons in the Finder. If you would like the added convenience of Replica for Windows copies that can be opened directly from the Finder, transfer copies to or from your PC in one of the following ways: • Use Microsoft Mail or AppleShare. These applications automatically add appropriate information to the Replica for Windows files so that they display the Replica icon in your Macintosh Finder and open when you double-click them. • Use a file translation application such as PC Exchange (Apple Computer) or Access PC (Insignia Solutions). These enable a Macintosh to read and write to PC-formatted disks. They create the proper resource information so that the PC files are assigned Macintosh Finder icons and can be double-clicked to launch the corresponding Macintosh applications. To make these applications work with Replica, you’ll need to enter the following information about Replica files in the appropriate dialog box: Macintosh Creator: REP! Macintosh Type: FRL! DOS file extension: .RPL For more precise instructions, consult the documentation that accompanied your file translation software. Part Number 6130953-01-01 January 13, 1994 Replica for Macintosh Release Notes Page 2 of 4 • Use Farallon’s Timbuktu for Windows to send Replica copies from the PC to Timbuktu for Macintosh on the Macintosh. To facilitate exchange of Replica copies between Macintosh and Wind…

Crimson Kahnage – 2021! Crimson Kahnage was first released on Christmas Eve, 2001. It was met with a warm reception from the Mac community, and I received a number of encouraging comments from several designers and Wolfenstein enthusiasts whose opinions I really valued. Combined with positive comments from my testers, I was pleased with the release. This original release, version 1.0, was never updated. Until now. Along with the positive comments I received at the time, I did receive some comments about the difficulty of version 1.0. The original release of this work was tough, particularly later on, and the difficulty is at times uneven. There are points where the game asks a lot of you, and penalises you heavily if you make even a single mistake. This is fun for certain types of players, but this style of gameplay doesn't appeal to all. I think it's particularly interesting that I never heard of anyone, save my testers, actually finishing the scenario. So far as I know, the furthest anyone got with the official release was the penultimate level. It's possible to read too much into a lack of response, but I have always taken this to maybe indicate that the original release was a touch too difficult. It is now 2021. To celebrate 20 years since the original release of this scenario, I have put together a new version of it. I have gone through the scenario from top to bottom. Through careful testing, I have made the scenario a little easier, and smoothed out the kinks in the difficulty curve. I believe the scenario is now much fairer, and should be much more approachable for most players. There are more supplies, slightly fewer enemies to fight, and secrets are easier to find. The odd little bug and graphical glitch have also been fixed. Overall, I think the experience is a lot more fun now. In updating this scenario, I tried to make any alterations as small as I could. Level geometry has been almost untouched, as has level flow. I have tried to keep the feel of all the levels as close to the originals as possible, while making them fairer overall. The changes are small enough that, if you're aware of the original, I hope you might not notice them at all, at least at first! But perhaps later on, when you're wondering why the fights seem easier, you might remember this little introduction! The documentation that follows has also been updated in a similar fashion. The text has been made easier on the eye, and a little easier to read, while maintaining as much of the colour of the original as I am able. Level information should be more useful now, and the story is written in a much better format. But the overall content remains, underneath, largely unchanged. It didn't seem fair to go through this scenario without adding some new content. So, hidden away in this work are five secret levels for you to find. None of these levels have been published before. They are mix of unpublished material from the early 2000s, and new material I have written t…

anAtlas Version 1.5 ©1998-2001 Harry Hooie Creations anAtlas is a simple yet powerful tool for locating places on Earth. Detailed results are listed and displayed on a map of the world. anAtlas can search its local database of over 60,000 places, or search more comprehensive databases via the Internet. Highlights: - Search local or Internet databases - Find cities, states, provinces, countries, airports, caves, churches, schools, etc. - See results displayed on a full color map - Link quickly to Internet resources such as maps, weather, and imagery - Find distances between locations by setting a "Home Base" - Work with your own data by simply dropping or pasting it into anAtlas System Requirements: - PowerPC - Mac OS 8 or 9 - 9 MB of available RAM Using anAtlas: If the local database does not contain what you are looking for, try using an on-line database. To do this, click on the "that begin" popup menu and select "via Internet". Then click the "Find" key again. (Click on the "Use" button to select different databases; "USGS GNIS" is the best for U.S. only searches - in addition to populated places it also contains airports, caves, cemetaries, churches, schools, and many other features) Once some locations show up in the list, double-click one (or drag one to the Map window) to highlight it on the Map. Try clicking on the "i" button in the upper right corner of the list to see what additional information on that location may be available. Accepts various data formats dragged or pasted onto its controls. For example, both the main results list and the User Locations window accept column-delimited or column-delimited latitude-longitudes. The Search Window - • Click the disclosure triangle to expand the window to offer search limitations on country and population. • Try searching "via Internet" for a more comprehensive (but slower) search. The Results Window - • Click the disclosure triangle to expand the window to display Latitude, Longitude, Range, and Population columns. • Double-click a row or drag it to the Map window to highlight that location and center the Map view on it. • Drag the location to the area at the top of the window to set it as the Home Base. • Use the "i" button for on-line mapping, weather, etc. for the selected place. • The Range column is the ground range from Home Base. • Use contextual menus to do other actions and local searches. • A "?" in the Population column denotes missing population data for that location. The Map Window - • Click and drag to scroll map. • Click while holding down command or option to zoom in and out (or click bottom left buttons). • When the cursor is over the Map, hold down the command key to display info on closest location to cursor. • Use contextual menus to do other actions and local searches. • Hold down the option key to display current sunrise and sunset times. The Menu Bar - • File -> New Search and Edit -> Find... -> Find Place are shortcuts to the "places" "tha…

Discrete Signals and Systems II - TRANSFORMS, WINDOWS, MODULATION: READ ME FIRST VERSION 1.01 To All Users: This disk is delivered with the version of the System Folder; System (v2.0) and Finder (v4.1). To replace the System Folder, startup your Macintosh with another disk "containing" System (v2.0) and Finder (v4.1), eject that disk (unless you have an external drive), insert a copy of this disk and then drag the icons of the System and Finder from the startup disk onto your copy. Transforms, Windows, Modulation will NOT operate on a 128K Macintosh. If you wish to use this product with newer versions of the System Folder, the screen will not refresh properly when the File Menu is used. The TWM Data Folder must be on the same disk as Transforms, Windows, Modulation otherwise, a "File Error" will occur when the application is started and the program may crash if you proceed. The TWM Data Folder contains the "TWM Image Folder" and the "TWM Scrap Folder." The images necessary for the operation of the program are stored in the TWM Image Folder. TWM Scrap Folder saves signals stored in 'storage bins.' Do NOT remove scrap #0 or screen save signal documents from the TWM Scrap Folder. TWM v1.01 can run on SCSI hard drives. It is recommended that on an HFS device, TWM 1.01 and all the related data/image files (scrap#0, screen save, saw, THEwindowER, POS) included on the disk be at the same level, i.e. in the same folder or all at the root level. If the files are scattered over the volume at different levels, the program will ask the location of each file at the start of the program. Also, TWM 1.01 is not recommended for a Mac SE or a Mac II; erratic behavior in signal file operations may result. Make sure the Discrete Signals and Systems disk is unlocked otherwise, a "File Error" will occur when you attempt to store a signal in a Storage bin. The Discrete Signals and Systems disk MUST be in the internal or external drive and do not operate the program after ejecting the disk. Due to a limitation in the graphics routines and screen resolution, discrete data values may appear unevenly spaced when the display width exceeds 60 points. Furthermore, when an array is all negative, the tick marks may overlap. In the "Point by Point" mode, if the value entered falls beyond the specified boundaries, lines may be drawn over the scroll bar. All standard Apple Desk Accessories are operational. However, if a desk accessory is moved around on the screen, the screen will not refresh until the accessory is put away. If infinite (INF) numbers are created during an operation, clear the signal in the graph window and then proceed. If vertical lines appear on the screen, save all signals, exit the program and restart. INF values may occur when using the exponential function generator or the exponential operation, if the base and/or the exponent are not carefully sel…
