TeleScope I-Piece SDK Introduction Thank-you for your interest in developing for TeleScope. The files which accompany this Read Me file will provide you with the framework to get started writing I-Pieces quickly. The I-Piece SDK assumes you are using CodeWarrior from MetroWerks to create you code. You may use other C or C++ development environments, but North Plains Systems Inc. does not guarantee its support of any other environment. The following folders are installed by the SDK installer: Put In MacOS Support: Take the contents of this folder, and place it in the "MacOS Support" folder inside your CodeWarrior development environment. The items in this folder are the libraries (for 68k) and header files for ODBC. The header files are required, because the I-Piece interface file, "IPieceIntf.h" uses some ODBC constructs. Unless you plan on actually using an ODBC connection in your I-Piece, you will not need to link with the libraries. Docs: These are the I-Piece SDK documentation files, in Adobe Acrobat format. Sample: The contents of this folder are a working, sample I-Piece, which you can use as a "skeleton" for building your own. Interfaces: This folder contains the main I-Piece interface file, "IPieceIntf.h", which defines all the calls, data structures and constants for building I-Pieces. We recomment you put this somewhere in your CodeWarrior folder hierarchy, or keep it separate and add the appropriate path to your projects. North Plains Systems Inc. offers free technical support, via fax or e-mail, during your I-Piece development. We always attempt to answer your questions within 12 hours. Our contact information is: Fax: (905) 272-0413 E-Mail: devsupport@northplains.com Good luck in your development efforts! -1-

Page 1 of 3 Saved: Friday, June 4, 1999 8:39:03 AM Filename Formatter Version 1.0 The Flexible File Naming Utility This utility facilitates the renaming of multiple files in a single batch process. Sure, you could manually rename or sequentially number dozens of files, but why not save time using this handy, dandy little application? Filename Formatter was originally designed for use by the creative crew at EyeWire (and before that Image Club Graphics) to streamline a wide range of tedious file naming tasks. After keeping it in-house for several years, someone decided that maybe our customers could benefit from this tool as well. Thanks to that fine, upstanding individual - you can now use Filename Formatter in the comfort of your own home or office. Enjoy. Comments, bug reports, and feedback regarding this software may be e-mailed to <goodies@eyewire.com> Although we certainly appreciate hearing from you, please be aware that Filename Formatter is not a commercial product. In fact, it’s just something that we slapped together in our spare time. The bottom line is… don’t expect full-blown, 24/7 technical support for this puppy. Thanks for understanding. .................................................................................................. .............. Before You Start The Filename Formatter utility is supplied as a HyperCard stack. As a prerequisite, it requires the HyperCard software be installed on your computer. The free HyperCard Player may be downloaded from the Apple Computer web site: http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10430 Want to create your own programs? You can also purchase the full retail version of HyperCard directly from Apple. HyperCard is Apple’s premier tool for easily creating custom software solutions for business, education, and multimedia. For more information on HyperCard and its features, check out the Apple web site: http://www.apple.com/hypercard/ .................................................................................................. .............. How to use Filename Formatter Filename Formatter currently recognizes and renames the following file types: - Adobe Photoshop - EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) - GIF - JPEG - QuickTime Movie - PICT - TIFF - Text Files Filename Formatter allows you to perform seven distinct operations on the names of files in a user-selected folder. You can: - Change the case of the alphabetical characters in a filename. - Strip spaces or other punctuation marks a filename. You can reformat filenames using: - Full filename substitution - Prefixes – Suffixes – Sequential numbering - String replacement or perform any combination of these operations. Read Me First! MODE32 is provided free of charge courtesy of Apple Computer through a special distribution agreement with Connectix Corporation. It will enable Macintosh II, IIx, IIcx and SE/30 computers to use standard System 7 32-bit addressing. It is not functional on other types of computers. Please read the licensing section before installation and use. If you have questions about this software please call Apple Customer Assistance (800/776-2333) in the United States, or your local Apple office outside the US. MODE32 is licensed for your use at no charge on any Macintosh II, IIx, IIcx or SE/30 computer. You may freely copy and distribute this software. Connectix also offers a full range of commercial memory enhancement and productivity utilities including HAND-Off II, MAXIMA, Virtual and OPTIMA which are licensed for single user, single system use and may not be freely distributed. For more information on these and other Connectix products, please call 800/950-5880, international 415/571-5100, fax 415/571-5195, or AppleLink "CONNECTIX". ___________________________________________________________________ Summary Description MODE32 is the utility for Mac II, IIx, IIcx, and SE/30 users who would like to use System 7 32-bit mode to access more than 8 contiguous megabytes of real or virtual application memory. It is especially useful for pre-press, image processing, desktop publishing, animation, CAD, scanning, other memory-intensive applications, or use of large numbers of applications. MODE32 enables the use of the standard 32-bit addressing mode of System 7.0. This new mode allows direct access to up to 128 megabytes of standard RAM or up to one gigabyte of virtual memory, eliminating the traditional “eight megabyte barrier.” 32-bit addressing would normally not be possible on the SE/30, II, IIx, and IIcx systems because of the software built into their ROMs. Those ROMs are only compatible with the less powerful 24-bit addressing mode which was standard in System 6.0. By extending the compatibility of the ROMs to the new 32-bit mode, MODE32 provides full System 7.0 32-bit functionality to these earlier machines. Some applications and INITs are not “32-bit clean,” that is, they are incompatible with 32-bit mode. Such software will usually cause your system to crash immediately when run in 32-bit mode. When you need to work with any non 32-bit clean INITs or applications we recommend using MAXIMA. MAXIMA extends addressing of your physical memory to 14 megabytes without resorting to 32-bit addressing, so it is compatible with essentially all applications. ___________________________________________________________________ Installation MODE32 is simple to install. Just drop MODE32 in your System 7 Control Panels folder. Next, open the Control Panels folder and double-click the MODE32 icon. Click the “Enabled” radio button inside the MODE32 Control Panel and close this window. MODE32 is now fully installed, but your machine is still set to start up in 24…

The Village, one of the Beyond Adventures® by Bill Cameron Hi there. Thanks for giving The Village a try. I hope you enjoy it. There are over 150 locations in The Village, with lots of puzzles, hacking and slashing, and hopefully some humor. For you tried and true World Builder afficianados, let me begin by saying that while this is my first released WB adventure, I have done several games before this one and have a decent amount of experience. I also realize how important beta testing can be. Nothing is more irksome than bugs. Therefore I have had several play-testers for The Village and I have done everything I can to ensure clean play. SPECIAL NOTE: (Perhaps the most useful information in this document.) In most of the scenes in this game, the opening line of the description is something like "You face north," or "You face southeast." The purpose of this is to give you the direction of the view in the graphics window. It doesn't have anything to do with the direction you were moving when you entered the scene. For example, it is possible to move into a scene from the west, but then find the view in the graphics window is west. This doesn't mean you walked into the location backward. It simply means the significant visuals are west. So for orientation purposes, I provided the "You face wherever" lines. The reason I'm harping on this is that some of the beta testers were confused by the "You face..." lines until I explained to them what I've explained here. Once it was clear, everyone found them very helpful. But enough on that. Now for the bothersome part: The Village is Shareware. The registration fee is $15, or $13 plus one double- sided disk. For your money, you get the current version of The Village. You also get The Village Sound Library, which includes over fifty sounds. Finally, you get an automatic 10% discount off any new games which Beyond Adventures releases. Automatic product release mailings go to all registered owners of any Beyond Adventure. Right now there are two more World Builder games in production by associates of Beyond, as well as a bizarre Hypercard game. Send registration fees to: Bill Cameron c/o Beyond Adventures P.O. Box 186 Oxford, Ohio 45056 (Please make checks or money orders payable to Bill Cameron. Allow a couple of days for personal checks to clear.) ANOTHER SPECIAL NOTE: the first reporter of a verifiable bug gets free registration, with all the perks that includes. Even beta testing isn't perfect, as is evidenced by MS Word 3.1. Ahem. Still, many thanks, praises, perks, and free registration to my beta-testers: Tom Collins Rick Mattox Anne Bell Chris Brown Harry Friedman and my tolerant wife, Sherry, who gets the best perks of all. Thanks again: Bill Camer…

or TAR for short... What TAR lets you do. TAR allows you to digitally record music and sound from any analogue source onto your Macintosh computer. You can record from cassettes, vinyl, 8 Track, reel to reel, even VHS, in fact anything that you have playback equipment for. TAR supports 16 and 8 bit recordings in stereo and mono. TAR records straight to disk, so it does not require large amounts of RAM. Uncompressed CD quality digital sound produces huge files - about 10 Mb per minute. (Both sides of a C-90 cassette, recorded on Auto Reverse would take 900 Mb.) TAR has powerful and easy to use editing features that let you break albums or cassettes up into discreet tracks. This is very important if you don’t always want to listen to tracks 1,2,and 3 before track 4. TAR produces tracks in AIFF format which are suitable for burning direct onto CD, or for compression into Mp3 files. TAR lets you select a Mp3 encoder, or any other application, and gives you the option of sending your saved tracks to this application. What TAR does not do TAR does not burn files onto CD. If you have a CDRW then you almost certainly got bundled software with it - probably the excellent Toast. TAR does not encode Mp3s, but it allows you to select an encoder of your choice, and sends the files to that. There are some suggestions about free Mp3 encoders that you can download off the net below. TAR does not do any digital signal processing, but you can also use the encoder selection feature to send recorded tracks to any application including a DSP. What you need PPC Macintosh Computer 8 Mb Free Ram System 8.1 or later. - it might work with 7.6 but I haven’t been able to try it. Monitor Resolution 800 x 600 pixels minimum. Approx 500 Mb disk space. Note that less than 2 Mb of disk space is required for the program, the rest is for your recordings. Audio Equipment You can record onto your Macintosh through the internal microphone, however you might prefer to record from vinyl, tape, radio or other analogue source. You will need an amplifier, the source (turntable, cassette deck etc), and some speakers. Make sure that your Macintosh and all audio equipment is turned off while you are making connections. Most Macs have a 3.5 mm stereo mini plug sound in port. You will need an audio cable with the stereo mini plug on one end, and two RCA phono plugs on the other for connection to your amplifier. Some Macs (AV types) have phono sockets and these can be connected to directly. There are pictures of the correct cables, and other useful info in Mac Help. Look under “Connecting audio equipment for inputting sound into you computer” in Mac Help under the Help menu in the Finder. You need to connect your Mac to a tape out port on your amplifier. You may also be able to connect your computer’s sound out port to the tape in port on the amplifier. You can then treat your Mac as if it were a cassette recorder. The newest Macs have sound inputs via their Firewire or …
