Mike's House version 1.0 Mike's house is an application written by Mike Rippe of SomeWare with World Builder™ by Silicon Beach Software. It makes use of the graphics, digitized sound, and programming capabilities offered by W.B. The map for House is taken from the floor plan of the Rippe house. This program is an example of the capabilities of World Builder™ and is FREE. The purpose of the game is to get everything you need to take a shower and then get to the bathtub. Sound simple? Not really. First of all, I'm not going to tell you what you need to get...you can find that out by going to the tub. Next, there are critters that really don't like the idea of you being in the house. Third, there are traps in a couple of the rooms that you can activate by complete mistake. There is a Commands menu that lists most of the commands that you can use. Others are built into World Builder™ applications automatically, and you have to experiment to find them. One note is that you can take things by clicking on them. The Weapons menu is a sort of extension of the Commands menu except it deals only with fighting. You can also save games, load games, revert to last saved, and quit. This program is being released at the same time as Princess 2.7. Princess is a text adventure with some graphics and sound. It is written in MS-BAISC 2.0 and is available for a $5.00 ShareWare fee. If I receive enough donations for it, I will re-write it as an application with graphics and digitized sound. Enjoy!, Mike Rippe P.O. Box 83 Hanover, NH 03755

Jade 1.2 Jade is a JPEG viewer based on the Independent JPEG Group's library of JPEG compression and decompression routines. It's main purpose is to fill the gap in Macintosh JPEG viewers which can view full sized JPEG images while maintaining reasonable memory and speed requirements. It was also made to be useful as a helper application in Netscape or any other web browser application that supports helpers. Advantages Over Other JPEG viewers Jade's main advantage lies in it's virtual memory scheme which allows memory requirements to be very low. One tradeoff is that it requires much more free disk space. Since RAM is fairly expensive relative to hard disk space this is a pretty good tradeoff. Using disk space, Jade allows you to have a large number (limited by it's parition size) of images open simulataneously with few speed penalties. Other JPEG viewers are usually RAM based, and when RAM runs out, need to re-decompress images which can take a relatively long time; especially when there are 30+ images. In addition to having more images open at once, Jade can also view JPEG images at their full size; all you really need is the disk space. Jade is also fast at JPEG decompression. Jade offers various display modes which alow you to tradeoff image quality for speed. The only exception I've found is when color quantization is used (when the monitor can only display 256 colors or less). But when it's not used it really flies; especially on a Powermac. Jade is also multithreaded. This means that you can decompress more than one image at a time. For example, if you use Jade as a helper for Netscape, when you download image A, you can go back into Netscape and download image B, while image A is being decompessed. If image B is finished being downloaded while image A is still being decompressed, decompression will immediately begin on image B. Being multithreaded means that even when Jade is busy decompressing images, all of its functions are still available to you. One minor disadvantage of the virtual memory scheme is that if Jade happens to crash or terminate abnormally (e.g., by force quitting it), it will leave its temporary files on the disk. To remove these temporary files, you should restart your computer. Upon restarting, all these temporary files will appear in your trash. All you need to do is empty it. Requirements A 68020 (or higher) or PowerPC Macintosh running system 7.5 or later. Or, a macintosh running system 7.0 (or later) with the Thread Manager extention. Legal Use Jade at your own risk. I the author will not be responsible for any damage implicitly or explicitly caused by Jade. Jade may be freely non-commercially distributed (e.g., non-profit). Commercial distribution requires author's consent. Jade is FREE. I only ask that you send me bug reports and/or constructive criticism/ideas/features on how to improve Jade.  About Mac OS Runtime for Java MRJ 2.2.4 Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2.4 is an upgrade to MRJ 2.2.3 which addresses a security issue affecting our users. In some cases, this would have permitted unauthorized applets to access the local hard drive. The release notes from MRJ 2.2, MRJ 2.2.2, and MRJ 2.2.3 appear below. Apart from the information above, these release notes still apply.  About Mac OS Runtime for Java MRJ 2.2.3 Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2.3 is an upgrade to MRJ 2.2.2 that improves memory usage, and provides substantial performance improvements for users who repeatedly access the same JAR files over a network. It also fixes several problems which were affecting users of 2-byte international systems. MRJ 2.2.3 is Gold Certified for use with Oracle Applications 11i when used with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. It is Bronze Certified for running applications built with Oracle Developer 6i and deployed on Oracle Developer Server using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 to access the client. Notes • JAR caching MRJ 2.2.3 introduces JAR caching. Java code is frequently stored on servers in a special type of file called a JAR (for Java Archive). If a Java applet uses many JARs, or if the JARs are very large, it can take considerable time to load these files. JAR caching saves copies of these files on your local hard drive. When you use a JAR again, MRJ checks to see if there is a newer version on the server. If not, it uses the local copy, and your application starts up much faster than it would without caching. JARs are saved in a folder named “MRJ Cache” located in “System:Preferences”. Over time, this folder will grow, but it will not exceed 100MB. If you want to reclaim some of this space, you can quit all running applications and then drag the “MRJ Cache” folder to the trash. The next time MRJ needs to cache a JAR file, it will create a new “MRJ Cache” folder. • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 MRJ 2.2.3 fixes several of the more prominent bugs exhibited when using MRJ 2.2 and MRJ 2.2.2 with Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) 5.0; other bugs still remain. Apple is working, along with Microsoft, to resolve these problems, and they will be addressed in a future release. • Yahoo Games If you play Yahoo games in MSIE 5.0, they may crash when you click the “Exit Games” - 1 - button. You can avoid this problem by using MSIE 4.5 to play these games. • MRJ SDK Developers working with MRJ 2.2.3 can continue to use MRJ SDK 2.2. Apple is not releasing a new MRJ SDK with MRJ 2.2.3. You can download MRJ SDK 2.2 from http://developer.apple.com/java/text/download.html. • Personal Web Sharing If you are using Personal Web Sharing, and want to include Java applets in your web pages, you should package your class files in ZIP or JAR format to avoid a bug in Personal Web Sharing that prevents an applet from running if any of its classes have a “$” in their name. The Wayback Machine-http://web.archive.org/web/20040301140833/http://www.surf.nuqe.nagoya-… About RHEED Convert ※ table of contents Overview explanation Operating environment download how to use Other general notes * Outline explanation This is a program that transforms the RHEED (Reflective High-Engration Electron Diffraction) pattern into an arrangement of reciprocal lattice rods viewed from directly above the surface. Reference books on electron diffraction include "Easy Electron Diffraction and Elementary Crystallography-Indexing of Electron Diffraction Figures" [Kyoritsu Shuppan, by Tanaka, Terauchi, and Tsuda], and "Surface / Interface Physics" on RHEED [Maruzen, Sone. Hen (new development of series physical physics)] etc. ※ Operating environment This software is CPU: 68020 and above (should not have FPU), PowerPC series Operating System: Mac OS 7.5 or higher (Thread Manager required) Works with. It's a Fat Binary, so it works best on both 68K Macintosh and Power Macintosh. He has developed it on 9500/200 and 7600/200 (both Mac OS 8J), and has confirmed the operation on 7100/120 (Mac OS 7.5.3J), but confirmed the operation on 68K Macintosh. Not available. It may also work on System 7.1, but I haven't confirmed it. Please see here for an example of the execution result (24KB). * Download rconv101.sit.hqx (program: 600KB) rconv_source.sit.hqx (source file: 1.2MB) ※ how to use 1. When started, a dialog will appear requesting a PICT file for the RHEED pattern to be converted. The image format is PICT only. Also, the converted image is forcibly converted to 256 gray. 2. When you specify a file, separate windows appear at the top and bottom, and the original RHEED pattern is displayed in the upper area. The two circles and one line in this represent the specular reflection spot (green circle), the direct spot (red circle), and the shadow edge (blue line), respectively. Drag with the mouse so that these three markers match the RHEED pattern. Note that the shadow edge always maintains the relationship between the perpendicular bisectors of the two spots, so moving one will automatically adjust the other markers to meet this requirement. 3. After adjusting the position of the marker, enter the field of camera length or electron beam viewing angle above. The unit of camera length is pixel, and the unit of viewing angle is °. The distance D between the two spots specified above is always in the relationship of tan θ = D / 2L (θ: viewing angle, L: camera length), so if you enter one, the other will be calculated automatically. First of all, it is convenient to find the camera length using a photo with a known viewing angle. The last used camera length will be automatically adopted at the next startup. 4. After specifying the marker a…

This brochure provides basic information about RagTime 4. It consists of three sections which are, for the most part, independent of each other and may therefore be read in any order. The chapter about installing RagTime 4 describes the normal software installation which, with the help of the familiar Apple installation program, runs automatically in most cases. In addition, it goes into detail concerning installation on servers and the related questions of licensing and authorization codes. The second chapter elaborates on the purpose of the various RagTime 4 software modules and their configuration on your computer’s storage medium. The closing chapter introduces in detail the concepts and ideas which make RagTime 4 unique. It demonstrates the broader design of the program with examples, mentions in sections about specific options relationships which are not immediately apparent and familiarizes you with RagTime 4 which will make your daily work with this program still more productive.  Welcome to the September 2001 Developer Tools CD! Contents Introduction Compatibility with Earlier Mac OS X Versions Compatibility of Built Applications Installing the Mac OS X Developer Tools Installing WebObjects Developer with the Mac OS X Developer Tools Installing the CarbonLib SDK Possible Installation Problems and Workarounds Introduction The September 2001 Developer Tools CD includes everything you need to begin developing applications for Mac OS X, including tools, documentation, and software. In addition, it includes the latest CarbonLib SDK for Mac OS 8 and 9. For the latest information and updates to Mac OS X development tools, documentation, code samples, and technical notes, please visit http://developer.apple.com/macosx. Developers are encourages to join the Apple Developer Connection which provides the most convenient access to Mac OS X development resources, including technical support and pre-release software. For information, visit http://www.apple.com/developer. Please read the separate What’s New document for information on what has changed on this CD. Compatibility with Earlier Mac OS X Versions The September 2001 Developer Tools CD is primarily intended for use on systems running Mac OS X 10.1. Earlier versions of the Developer Tools CD should not be installed or used with Mac OS X 10.1 (for example, the older linker does not work with two-level namespace binaries). If you are running earlier versions of Mac OS X, we strongly encourage you to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.1 and the September 2001 Developer Tools so you can take full advantage of new features of the tools, including two-level namespace. Two- level namespace is a new linker feature (similar to that on Mac OS 9) that provides faster launch times for your applications and more robustness by ensuring that at launch time your application dynamically links with symbols from the correct libraries. It will help ensure greater compatibility on future versions of Mac OS X as Apple adds new APIs to the system frameworks. Two-level namespace is the default behavior of the linker. Do not install the complete September 2001 Developer.mpkg package on systems earlier than Mac OS X 10.1. The only sub-package which may be useful is the Developer Tools package itself. If you want to install that (via Custom Install), update to at least Mac OS X 10.0.4 before doing so. When using the new tools (which default to two-level namespace) on a Mac OS X 10.0.4 system, you will need to add /usr/lib/libobjc.A.dylib as a library (and possibly other frameworks) to properly link Cocoa applications. That is not necessary on Mac OS X 10.1. Do not upgrade from the May 2001 Developer Tools package to the September 2001 Developer Tools unless you are running at least Mac OS X 10.0.4. On systems earlier than 10.0.4, there was an Installer bug that would prevent you from launching any applications after that tools upgrade, due to over-aggressive deletion of a non-empty directory. In Project Bu…
