Quick Installation Guide for FireSite™ Web Site Acceleratior, Version 2.1 Speed Booster, Standard, and Multimedia Editions FireSite™ Virtual Domain Manager, Version 2.1 for PowerPC and 68K / Mac OS 7.5.x,7.6.x,8.x / WebSTAR 1.3.2, 2.x What's included here? Four FireSite products are contained in a single WebSTAR plug-in; different FireSite Authorization Keys will "unlock" the different packages. FireSite™ Virtual Domain Manager, version 2.1 The Web's the most advanced single-IP virtual domain system. This package allows you to serve multiple Web sites from a single Web server, track their usage, and collect billing information for site hosting clients. If you are serving five or more virtual domains, we recommend that you use FireSite Web Site Accelerator Standard or Multimedia Editions; they include the full FireSite Virtual Domain Manager, and also dramatically accelerate the speed of all your virtual Web sites. FireSite™ Web Site Accelerator, version 2.1 This patent-pending software will dramatically increase the speed, capacity, and throughput of your Web server. ("T-1 speeds using ISDN") There are three FireSite acceleration packages to choose from: Speed Booster Edition: up to 5Mb of GIFs and JPEGs accelerated Designed to accelerate a single Web site; great for independent Web designers. Standard Edition: up to 50Mb of GIFs and JPEGs accelerated, plus integrated Virtual Domain Manager and real-time reports. Designed light-to-midrange Web hosting of multiple business-type Web sites. Multimedia Edition: unlimited acceleration, including graphics, "plug-in" multimedia, and downloads, plus integrated Virtual Domain Manager, real-time reports, configurable intelligent RAM caches, special features for live WebCams and ad banners, multimedia "anti-hijacking" system, "Welcome Mat" system, instant multimedia "Themes", and automatic bandwidth-balanced management of multiple Web servers as a RAIC. Provides industrial-strength acceleration, Web hosting, and multimedia management. Also in this distribution: ClearWay Simple Cache Manager, version 1.1 This WebSTAR plug-in works with FireSite to manage your server's RAM caches. (May also be used by itself, without FireSite.) ClearWay Simple PPP Restart, version 1.0 This Mac OS system extension is designed for Web servers running FireSite that use a dialup modem connection to the Internet. It helps keep the phone line "up" as much as possible. (May also be used without FireSite.) Where should I start? Start by installing the FireSite Web Site Accelerator. Once you have the FireSite plug-in installed and configured, set up "replication" and then configure Virtual Domains if you wish. Use the ClearWay Simple Cache Manager to keep your WebSTAR and NetCloak RAM caches "in sync" with the files on disk. Use this even if you decide not to use the FireSite products themselves. If you are using…

This document briefly describes the changes from FireSite 2.0 to FireSite 2.1. As of July 7th, 1997, FireSite 2.1 is the official released & supported version of - FireSite Virtual Domain Manager (virtual domain service) - FireSite Speed Booster Edition (site acceleration) - FireSite Standard Edition (VDM plus acceleration) - FireSite Multimedia Edition (VDM, unlimited acceleration, multimedia features) NOTE: StarNine has identifed a critical "crash bug" in WebSTAR 2.0 and earlier versions. You should upgrade to WebSTAR 2.1 as soon as you can. http://www.starnine.com/ New features in FireSite 2.1 ---------------------------- * Added resettable statistics for traffic analysis and virtual-domain billing Statistics are visible in /perf.fire, the 'list of sites' page, and on the setup page for each virtual site. * Added "FS Live" Finder label. This is designed explicitly for "live" files such as WebCams. FireSite will not cache any "FS Live" files, and if an "FS Live" file changes, FireSite will not bother to clear the WebSTAR or plug-in caches. (MM only) * FireSite now starts up very, very quickly compared to earlier versions. The startup time is NOT related to the size of your FireSite database (anymore). For the first couple of minutes AFTER startup, your server will continue caching the FireSite database into RAM, which may slow down your server a small amount. You will see a message in the WebSTAR window when the database is fully cached. FireSite will automatically convert your existing database into the "fast start" format the first time you run FireSite 2.1 (this one-time operation may take a few minutes). * Added control over whether FireSite "cleans" messy URLs with redundant information or not. For example, if a Netscape users enters http://www.firstco.com/~firstco/products.html FireSite ordinarily redirects the browser (using link.fire) to http://www.firstco.com/products.html However, if you are combining FireSite with an IP-mapping router or driver, you may wish to disable this feature. You can now control it by accessing the "FireSite Setup" page. (Std and MM only) * Added special control for ISDN users with "virtual connections" (also known as dial-on-demand, and dialback-on-demand) This control allows you to stop FireSite from monitoring your remote servers after a certain period of inactivity on your Web site. FireSite will stop testing the remote servers after the timeout you specify, and your ISDN line will be able to 'drop.' FireSite will resume remote-server monitoring once activity resumes on your Web site. * New messages in the WebSTAR window that show when various FireSite feature have been triggered: Virtual-domain related (Std and MM only): + FireSite serving Site Error page ([requested-URL] not found) + FireSite serving Multisite Index Page to "[name-of-browser]" [requested URL] + FireSite linking browser to cleaner virtua…

A C++ Application framework for Macintosh created by Graham Cox User Manual Edition 3, January 2000 For framework version 2.1 ©2000, Graham Cox. All Rights Reserved. MacZoop 2.1 User Manual Page 1 Welcome to MacZoop! This manual has been completely rewritten for the MacZoop 2.1 release. If you are familiar with earlier versions of MacZoop, you will notice a few changes in this version which help make MacZoop even easier to use and more powerful. If you are new to MacZoop, this manual will tell you all you need to know to get started writing Macintosh applications in next to no time. This manual completely replaces the old one. MacZoop is aimed at beginners to Macintosh and C++ programming, but also at seasoned pro- grammers who want to create applications that don’t require a huge, heavyweight and bloated framework. If you are a beginner, the Getting Started and Tutorial chapters have been written especially to ease you into MacZoop concepts comfortably. If you have more experience, you may prefer to gloss over or skip these chapters and move straight on to the later chapters which explain how MacZoop is intended to work. System requirements MacZoop can be used to create applications for any Macintosh that runs System 7.0 or later. This includes both 680x0 and Power PC models. MacZoop is Appearance savvy if you have System 8 or later, and is designed so that the same source code can be used to create applications that will work across all versions of the OS since 7.0. To use MacZoop, you require a compiler and development system. MacZoop is closely designed around Metrowerks’ CodeWarrior, but can also be used with Apple’s MPW development system. MacZoop is distributed as full, complete source code, so you can learn from the code supplied and even change it to suit your requirements if you have to. However, the basic framework is intended to work unchanged across any conceivable application, and should compile and run straight out of the box with no special difficulties. MacZoop will work with any version of CodeWarrior since DR4 or so, provided all C++ features such as exceptions and RTTI are sup- ported. All CodeWarrior Pro versions are fine, as is CodeWarrior Lite. Legal stuff MacZoop is provided ‘as is’ and its fitness for any particular purpose is not warranted. It is the copyright and intellectual property of Graham Cox, and all rights are reserved. MacZoop is completely free, but a condition of its use is that any applications created with it clearly state in both their documentation and “about box” that they are a derivative work of MacZoop. Color Effects Exposure Exposure lightens or darkens your whole photo. Using Exposure will create the effect of over- or underexposing your photo, and therefore is best for strong lightening or darkening. Overexposing your photo will brighten it until the lightest area of your photo is all white; underexposing it will darken it until the darkest area is all black. Be aware that using exposure will cause you to lose detail in the brightest or darkest areas. To avoid this, try using Midtone Brightness instead. Midtone Brightness Midtone brightness lightens or darkens the middle tones of your photo while having relatively effect on the brightest and darkest tones. Adjusting the midtone brightness effectively changes the slope of the transition between dark and light areas, without modifying these extremes. If the exposure of your photo is right, this is the best effect for lightening or darkening the image, since it will not lose any image fidelity when used moderately. © 2011 The Iconfactory & ARTIS Software Saturation, Brightness, Contrast Saturation, Brightness, and Contrast are the three basic color controls. Increasing Saturation makes the colors in your photo more intense, and decreasing it makes them closer to greyscale. When the exposure of your photo is not directly balanced, increasing the contrast will emphasize the light or dark areas. Use Brightness (which brightens or darkens the whole image without limit) to adjust for extremes when changing the Contrast. Tint Tint overlays a color on the photo; it’s like adding color in the print process of a physical photo. Depending on the Blending Mode you use with tint, you will get very different effects; we recommend checking out Multiply, Screen, and Overlay. Using the opacity with Tint is also very important. Tint is particularly helpful for certain vintage effects; for more photographic effects, use Color Filter. Duotone Duotone is like black and white, except that you choose the two tones used. The photo’s black areas are replaced by the Dark Color and the white areas are replaced by the Light Color. Tones in between the extremes are gradually mixed between these two colors. Duotone can be used conservatively—for example, making the dark color a dark brown and the light color a light yellow to create the impression of a faded black & white photo—or more adventurously— say, by making the Dark Color white and the Light Color black to create a negative image. Duotone is very powerful, and experimenting with it can create very interesting and unexpected results. © 2011 The Iconfactory & ARTIS Software Color Filter Color Filter works similarly to using a physical color filter on your camera—that is, putting a colored piece of glass in front of the lens. Any saturated color works great with the Color Filter, however there are two classic usages: Use yel- low to orange to make your phot…

What is Flare? Flare is a fast, easy, and beautiful darkroom for your Mac. With Flare, you can apply photographic effects to your photos, then save them to your Mac, upload them to Flickr, or send them in an email. Flare comes with over twenty presets that create different kinds of effects, but if the preset you’re looking for doesn’t exist yet, you can tinker with the presets or even build your own from scratch. How to use it Using Flare is easy. 1. Drop the photo you want to edit on the Flare window or dock icon. 2. Rotate or crop it as desired. 3. Apply a preset to get the look you want. 4. Save the photo to your Mac, export it to Flickr, or email it to a friend. Flare has more tricks up its sleeve, but if you never need them, you’ll never see them. If you want to know everything Flare can do, keep reading. © 2012 The Iconfactory & ARTIS Software Basic principles The basic principles of Flare fall under six headings: 1. Photos: You can call them images, photos, or pictures, but Flare exists to make ’em more awe- some. ’Nuff said. 2. Presets: Presets are bundles of effects that you can apply to your photos. If one of the included presets don’t quite do what you need it to do, you can edit it or make your own. You can even share customized presets with your friends, so they can use them too. 3. Effects: Effects are individual changes that can be applied to your photos. You can use them as part of the built-in presets, add or subtract them to edit the built-in presets, or use them as building blocks for your own custom presets. 4. Snapshots: If you’re working on a preset but it’s not quite ready to save yet, you can save it tem- porarily as a snapshot. Beware, though—if you save more than 24 snapshots, you’ll start to lose your earliest ones. Make sure to save your presets as soon as you’re happy with them. 5. Image Controls: Flare doesn’t just do presets and effects. If you need to rotate or crop a photo, Flare is right there with the goods. 6. Save and Export: Flare lets you save your now-even-more-awesome photo as a file on your Mac, send it to flickr, or send it in an email. © 2012 The Iconfactory & ARTIS Software Presets Presets are the easiest way to use Flare. If you want to make an photo look like a scene from a comic book or a photo you kept in a shoebox for years (just to name two examples), Flare has you covered. Just click Presets, choose the preset you want, and click Apply. Boom—you’re done! You can skip ahead to Image Controls and Save & Export. If you want to get into the gritty details and build your own presets, though, read on. Adding and editing an effect To change a preset, add or edit the effects that make it up: 1. Select the preset you want to work from—say, Mr. Blue Sky. 2. Click the Edit tab next to Presets. 3. Click the arrow next to any of the applied effects to see more details. …
