Version 1.1 Documentation Designed by: Andrew Welch New features in version 1.1: • FlashWrite is now much more compatible with MultiFinder. • FlashWrite now has Find and Find Again commands to allow you to search through you notes. • FlashWrite now allows you to print out your notes. Documentation Introduction FlashWrite is an INIT which you put in your System Folder that provides a powerful yet easy to use text editor at your fingertips. No matter where you are, just hit a key combination and FlashWrite pops up on your screen, ready to use. FlashWrite is more than that though, in fact it is quite a bit different than any program you are used to, so I'll list a few key features: • It is an INIT that you put in your System Folder that you invoke by typing a key, so there is no digging through the Apple menu to find your favorite text editor DA to take down some quick notes. In fact, that's something FlashWrite is great for: storing tidbits of information quickly. Hit a key and no matter where you are, FlashWrite instantly opens and you can jot down some notes. Then hit another key and FlashWrite goes away, and you're back where you were before, and FlashWrite remembers what you typed, no hassles. • You can use also use FlashWrite for lists of things to do, phone numbers, important dates, the list goes on and on and the key to it all is that FlashWrite uses a easy to use, no hassles interface. • You can also use FlashWrite in it's "Clipboard" mode to edit text on the Clipboard or prepare a text file to be saved or sent to a telecommunications system. • FlashWrite allows you to import and export text, so you can read text files instantly, make changes to them, and save them back to disk. • FlashWrite will even open in dialog boxes and other situations where you can't open a Desk Accessory. • FlashWrite has an intuitive "less is more" interface, which turns your computer into more of the appliance that it should be. • FlashWrite is fully through the Control Panel DA; you can change a number of features, such as whether to use SmartQuotes, the key which invokes FlashWrite, and the creator of text files FlashWrite writes. • FlashWrite has 10 different "Note Pad" style pages for storing information. • FlashWrite allows you to search through the text you have entered, and print out your notes so that you can take them with you. To start using FlashWrite, put it in your System Folder and Restart the computer. Next hold down the Command key , Shift Key, and hit Delete (Backspace on older Macs). In a few seconds, FlashWrite will pop up on your screen with a little greeting that I typed in it. You'll notice that FlashWrite automatically remembers the size and location of it's window, the text you last had typed into it, and all the other settings such as fon…

About Flashcard, page 1 ABOUT FLASHCARD_ documentation for the Flashcard program, version 1.1 1) What is Flashcard? Flashcard is a repetitive-enforcement learning aid, designed to be similar in many ways to those decks of flashcards commonly used to teach mathematics and other skills to children. Flashcard provides a means by which any set of pairs of associated words or phrases may be learned, in any of several different formats. 2) How do I use it? To create a new deck of flashcards, run the program and choose Cards_ from the Edit menu. A dialog box will appear. Inside the two long edit boxes type the title card, the two titles for what you wish to study (for example, if you wished to study the Spanish equivalents of English numbers, you might put English Numbers in the top box and Spanish Numbers inside the bottom one). Hit RETURN and your titles will appear above the edit fields. Then click the check box marked Insert New Cards. While this box is checked, the Next and Previous buttons will make new, blank cards whenever pushed. Push the Next button, and fill in the boxes with your first flashcard. Hit RETURN or push the Next button again, and fill in your second. Continue until done. When you are finished with your last card, click the Finished button. About Flashcard, page 2 You can also create a deck of flashcards using MacWrite_ or any other word processor or editor that allows the creation of text files. Write the text of your flashcards, one phrase per line. Every pair of lines will make one flashcard. The first card in the list, called the title card, defines what names will be used for the cards. For example, the following sequence of lines defines a deck of cards that allows the user to study the Spanish numbers up to ten; the title card tells that, out of each pair, the first is the English numeral and the second is the Spanish numeral, and the other cards follow. English Numbers Spanish Numbers one uno two dos three tres four cuatro five cinco six seis seven siete eight ocho nine nueve ten diez Remember to save the file as "text only!" Note that there are ten cards in the file, plus one title card, with two lines per card. To load the file, run the Flashcard program, choose Open_ from the File menu, and choose the name of your file. Once your cards are loaded, you can edit them by choosing Cards_ from the Edit menu. You can move around in the deck with the Next and Previous buttons, or by changing the card number…

Its a known fact, that OSX can not write HFS Standard floppies as of 10.6 and higher. However there is the dd command available in all *nix systems. Unix guys will know. For the others, dd and Terminal can do many useful things, including writing HFS floppies. What is needed: Mac OSX 10.12 or lower. Termial App from Application/Utilities USB floppy drive. Installation of MiniVmac_II with Mac OS 7.5 RAW floppy image Transport dmg, DOS formatted. The last three are included in the DL file. Lets assume you want to write the game file Mac Yahtzee to floppy with you Mac running Sierra. http://macintoshgarden.org/games/mac-yahtzee Its impossible to write to a HFS Standard volume from userland. We may write to DOS volumes though and MacOS 7.5 does read those volumes too. Double click the Transport.dmg and copy the downloaded mac_yahtzee.sit to it. Drag Transport.dmg into your Sierra dustbin when done. Double click Mini Mac 2673.app and drag MacII_HD75 onto it as the screen with the blinking question mark appears. Next drag Transport.dmg onto Mini Mac´s screen to mount it. Open Transport.dmg, copy the sit file to the TEMP folder and drag and drop the sit onto the Stuffit Expander alias. Unmout Transport.dmg by dragging it into the Mini VMac dustbin when done. Copy the 1440.dsk file from the DL to the root directory of your boot volume. Your user pass will be needed to do so with Sierra. The dd command seems to be picky when writing files to floppy, so you do use the untouched 1440 RAW image from the DL. Drag the 1440.dsk onto the Mini VMac screen and copy the MacYahtzee app to it. Shut down Mini Mac when you are done. Insert a floppy and open DiskUtility. Use the Info button to find out the device ID of your floppy. For this example, lets assume the floppy is disk3. Now select Unmount. Open Terminal and type in (or copy/paste): Code: sudo dd if=/1440.dsk of=/dev/disk3 Because of sudo, you will have to type in your OSX password. The copy process will need some time. The whole floppy is written. As you got a similar output as the above picture, use DiskUtility to mount/ unmount to see it in Finder. Done. Your files should show up on floppy! Now eject 1440 and take it to your vintage Mac. Have fun! Many thanks to all those tinkering with dd, especially to Max1zzz for pointing to RAW and MiniVMac! At last a warning to the casual reader: Though very little can go wrong, if you follow the above to the letter, it is jokingly said that dd stands for "destroy disk" or "delete data", since when used for low-level operations on hard disks, a small mistake such as reversing the input file and output file parameters could result in the loss of some or all data on a disk. m http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dd_(Unix m ) Edit: I don't have a suitable Mac any more to read the floppy created above. Basilisk II build 142 for Windows does read HFS floppies though, this is how it looks:

Random preset selection If you enable the check box in the bottom of the configuration dialog, a random preset will be used each time your screensaver is run.
