IRC Behavioural Issues.
The freenode guidelines say that our responsibility as ops is to push the conversation in the right direction. As often as I'm around, I do that.
Your responsibility as good netizens is to also push conversions in the right direction.
As far as the PMs go, it's just like how a forum PM is outside the jurisdiction of the forum moderation team, an IRC PM is outside the jurisdiction of the IRC operator. Plus, saying "all known to be members of #68kMLA" is like saying "all known to use computers on a regular basis" or "all known to breathe oxygen on a regular basis." It doesn't necessarily mean that #68kMLA is out to get you, or anyone else.
I'm there to make #68kMLA safe and friendly, not all of IRC.

Here is a novel Idea:
We can have an unban request box.It will give that person 3 days trial period. Once it expires, the mod will judge wether or not he has changed. Good idea?

Well, yes. There are some members who would like to come back to IRC, and have changed there ways. Hense the trial idea. I wont name the people. I will let them communicate with you.
That wouldn't really be a good idea because people will be all great for three days and then will go back to being silly and annoying. Its nice right now. Remember people, you were warned and banned for a reason. Stop complaining, you brought it on yourselves.
It is going downhill now with IRC-War and notncie posts.

Like I said, I misunderstood the one warning. If I was given a second chance, now that I know what the rules are, I would not break them. I really wouldn't. It is the only thing on the internet I've been banned from - all the others had rules. Now that #68kmla has rules, I wouldn't go back to being "silly and annoying". If I did, I would and should be banned again - permanently.
You should go check out Macteens before saying this forum is going down the drain.
I haven't noticed there being any kind of IRC war, and there aren't too many posts I've seen that are rude or inappropriate, other than a few things posted in the wrong forum.
You guys are just nicer.
'Fritter probably has a greater number of well-informed contributors about Mac hard- and software, but everybody here knows something that will be of use to someone else at some time, and I am not denigrating or discounting the informed ranks here. A little more trawling through older posts before asking the same question again would be useful to us all, both questioners and answerers.
If you wish to savour rampant foul-mouthed print, there are enough examples of such immaturity elsewhere. (No names. No pack-duty.) We've also had our share of hysterics who ultimately spat the dummy and screamed off in a hissy-fit because no-one accepted their umbilicocentric view of the universe, but that's life.
Considering that the enlisted of this Army span almost six decades in age, we don't do too badly as a result of our differences in worldview and experience.

Discussion of various problems with this IRC and tensions resulting from fights etc on there seem to have been spilling over onto the forum a lot recently (especially when people from IRC who aren't members here every so often seem to come here just to post a whole load of nastiness directed at some one that they fell out with on IRC, and it's always allowed to stay and degenerate further rather than just being deleted), personally I think IRC and the forum should be kept completely separate ie the IRC made completely "unofficial" with no links to it from here, and IRC-related discussion not allowed here, it has to stay on there. That way at least if IRC is going to be the disaster zone that it sounds like it is, it wouldn't end up filling the forum with this stuff and spoiling the atmosphere here. Anyone with me?
IRC isn't a disaster zone, It's just not necessarily the same friendly structured environment with 17 little divisions as to what topics are "allowed." As far as what people make it sound like, you've got to remember that it's always the people that set the atmosphere, and it's the people who present it to the forum as though it's a disaster zone are the people who are causing it to be a disaster zone.
I think the people that present it as a disaster zone are the IRC people that come on here and make huge posts full of hatred and nastiness having a go at one of the forum members for something that happened on IRC (it's happened several times recently), and the IRCers that come here to sound off about how bad it's been on there lately. I think at least the IRC stuff could be contained if there was more of a division between the two, and forum visitors wouldn't have to see the fallout.
Like I said in the other topic IRC since a few people were banned is nicer. Usually consists of "Hey" "Hi" " <8 hours of silence> then a repeat.

I've been logging the channel continuously with very few interruptions since, oh, maybe early March of '07 when I got the iMac back from service that one time.
I'd say if you want to see what goes on in the IRC channel, then go ahead and join. We don't bite unless we're provoked, and sometimes, we can be downright friendly.
It's not necessarily a good reference resource, but we're usually good for fielding a question or two, and we can help point you in the right direction if you need help quickly (although I still advocate asking complex multi-part questions on the forum, since few of us actually read the backlog of what happened when we were gone.)

FFS! i just got banned for trying to defend to Aeroraptor (john) why I was on the forums! He started to question me on why I am even related to the forums, and techfury90 kicked me and banned me after aeroraptor started attacking me for not having 68k machines in the house, or why I don't post about 68k machines on the forums (which I actually do) and *I* am the one to get kicked out of the channel? TO THE CHANNEL: ****-OFF!!! I am getting sick of this damned attacking and being banned for stuff that I am trying to defend myself on. Aeroraptor: Why are you so disagreeable? you keep attacking me! Do not take it out on me. I was just stopping an argument in a manner instructed by Cory5412. You were even warned a few days prior for arguing, and I even told you that if you kept on arguing, you'd be banned. I let it slide a few times, but eventually, something had to be done.
you refuse to even confront others who are attacking people. I have NEVER ONCE attacked you on something. I seem to be the one defending myself, and you never to tell someone like aeroraptor to cut it out. Instead you tell me to stop arguing (which I am trying to defend myself) and aeroraptor gets away with belittling me. It seems you need to get your priorities straight about who you ban and what you op.
Sorry, but I'm just doing what Cory5412 wanted me to. If you'd like to get it taken care of, perhaps you should speak to him privately versus creating a scene online to draw attention.
I just sent a message to cory5412 hoping that aeroraptor will be dealt with for all the belittling done in the channel. All I did was try to defend myself and even trying to just drop the subject, but aeroraptor kept going at me. I would like this dealt with ASAP from all the bullying done by him and a few others
In all honesty, when I first joined the channel I felt like I think what you do. However, once I stopeed asked completely stupid questions, and acting a bit more mature, everyone was really nice. I don't think there is an amount of unfairness. No one wants to site through a flame war. it doesn't matter if you were just "defending yourself." If you had presented your points in a logical, thought out matter, instead of screaming like you probably did, there would be no problem

There are allways people that cause drama wherever they go, and yet it is "never" their fault. People get tired of it.
People who wanted to drop the subject don't post about it on public discussion forums which only further perpetuates "the subject."
It's worthwhile to note that public discussion forums like this can be considered a permanent record, completely accessible to the public. If there's been any immaturity going on, I think these posts are a good indicator of who it is.
