You provide a great service to the world, mr. Netfreak. Thanks for the update!
heh... we are the only germans here. besides oliver aka macos from myoldmac... dunno what his name is here.
.Well i'm german, too and a 68k Mac fan for many years now, but haven't registered to this forum until recently because my english isn't that good. There isn't a better community for this kind of stuff IMHO, so i'll do my best
.
och is det schön...
ihr deutschen, kommt doch alle mal im 68kmla IRC vorbei

out of sheer curiosity, what ever hapened to the line that is more than warm on the mla?
Have you given up on the server? So I've set up a new 68k Hotline with about 6 gigs of storage (presently). Its at ueberlandowiki.net, no login necessary. Just dump things in Uploads, and I'll be more than happy to organize them.
So it seems like every server in this list is down now... perhaps a more decentralized approach to the retro-computing/abandonware problem is required.
Anyone feel like porting WASTE to m68k?

And it's a great collection you have. Unfortunately, I never get more than 2K/sec when downloading (quite often less)..My server is still running 24/7: http://vcfa.890m.com/connect.html
Yeah I apologize for the lack of bandwidth, after this summer the server speed should pick up dramatically as I move it from my home to my college internet connection.
I still can't believe you got almost everything from the preter human server.
John Musbach you saved me buns! Thanks for hosting the box/bandwidth/headache man! We can't live without your help!!
(Very happy to have had the privilage of getting some hard to find abandoned stuff off John's server)
*UBER BIG HUG*
Rock on John!

So I contacted my college's residential networking department to inquiry about hosting the server on their network, I received a stern response stating that they do not want the server on their network due to copyright infringement concerns.
I now have to decide if I can accept leaving the server running at my house without me and thus with quite limited on hands support or if it would just be better to decommission the service. That is, unless I start getting donations to go towards a colocation bill (so far I have received no donations--if you do want to donate, just click the PayPal donate button at http://vcfa.890m.com, you can donate using either a credit card or a paypal account)... *sigh*

When are you leaving? I still want to set something up, I just don't have the hardware to host 1TB of data (nothing with SATA).
I'm leaving in August, I think I have a plan for keeping the server running without colocating it once I leave so all is not lost
WOOHOO!!
I wonder how long it will be...

taken straight from http://www.preterhuman.netpreterhuman.net will be back!
Our servers are still currently down, but that doesn't mean they won't be online again. We are currently building a new collection of hardware to serve our sites and will then be looking into a suitable datacenter. If you would like to donate to assist our efforts, please contact plezica@gmail.com

Very cool!
I have gotten 10 GB of FTP space from a friend, How big is the Macintosh folder (The important working stuff) on the KDX server ftp://kdxvcfa.dyndns.ws/ ?
19G Macintosh
19G Macintosh
Hmm, I bet If I can gain access to it I might be able to trim it down a little. If I can get it to 10 GB, it will take around 26 days just downloading from the KDX server (At 4 KB/s), though there are spikes in speed and it goes to 10 KB at times. Though there is a problem... I don't think I have a computer that will be operational for that long in one sitting. If someone has the resources to get the files in one place where I can then go through and delete stuff (Things with lost resource forks, incomplete files, ect). I will see if I can get 19 GBs from my friend.
Hey all, I have worked out decent pricing with a local datacenter and the server will be online again before January. I've already got the DNS and backup web server running out of Toronto so now its just a matter of putting the main box online here in BC.
YES YES YES! Can't wait!Hey all, I have worked out decent pricing with a local datacenter and the server will be online again before January. I've already got the DNS and backup web server running out of Toronto so now its just a matter of putting the main box online here in BC.
This is great news, in addition I've currently got another person who will be mirroring this content from a datacenter as well. So it sounds like we'll now have plenty of bandwidth for these files!
and when will this happen? This is great news, in addition I've currently got another person who will be mirroring this content from a datacenter as well. So it sounds like we'll now have plenty of bandwidth for these files!![]()
During thanksgiving break, when I have a chance to go back home
So that explains why the kdxvcfa server is completely down? Will the speeds be faster when it's back up?During thanksgiving break, when I have a chance to go back home
I actually had no idea that the server went down, not sure why that happened. :-/ But I'll be going home this saturday so I'll be able to look into that issue and I'll be able to provide the guy interested in mirroring the files with the files. Stay tuned!
Yarr, it went down a few days ago. I thought about mailing you but figured there wasn't much you could do when not near it.
IIRC it been more than a week since it crashed.Yarr, it went down a few days ago. I thought about mailing you but figured there wasn't much you could do when not near it.
5 days - I was in the middle of downloading something...
wow I'm sorry, i'll definitely get on this asap when I get home, but as has been said there currently is unfortunately little I can do ...even ssh is not working.
I just hope the mac itself hasn't finally kicked the bucket.p
