68rowse, which I suggested, is actually to be pronounced 6-Browse, it uses leet.

That's settled then, the executable file will be named "Le petite fromage", but all references in license will refer to browser6.

I don't speak french. :p

IIIIII LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps Le Petit Fromage?

Why not let the imagination loose, but focus on the appropriate gender as tomlee59 has suggested?

Water bat Das Käselein? Il formaggino? Da liddle chiz? Caseus parvus? Or mebbe let its dad name it something like Browser6?

A mistake people often make is to try and think of a name before getting down to actually making the product. What's wrong with Browser6? If every company spent all their time thinking about the name, we'd have no products to buy! Look at Apple - they have lame names for most of their products (Pages? Numbers? Bonjour? Apple TV????) -- forget the name and get us a beta (or, alpha) build! ;)

I will call mine Gerald. I will keep it in a box, and love it and pet it, for ever and ever.

I like it a lot! Let just hope this is not a sign your code is full of holes…  ;)

Perhaps Le Petit Fromage?
Actually this is an anglo-saxon habit to put capital letters to all words in titles, names, etc. Poerter is correct, in french you give a capital letter to the first word only. Hence Le petit fromage

As the swiis guy around, I must say thats really a cool name! 8-)

Not a mere habit, but a convention of the language. A king. The King. A government. The Government. A little cheese. The Little Cheese. English-speakers could as well, and with as little point, criticize Romance languages for not capitalizing proper names when it is proper to do so. (proper = own).

A resident of Schweiz/Suisse/Svizzera should not need to have that convention emphasized, nor capitalization of all substantives as part of a (modern) practice. And even in français, La suisse is not the same as La Suisse. And you seem to have missed the mismatch between 'petite' and 'fromage' that tomlee59 was flagging. Motes and beams, perhaps?

I was trying to say that to me the name of the program is unimportant.

Understood, and I have complete sympathy with the viewpoint. That said, however, I have to admire the crafting of a catchy double-entendre such as 'SuperDuper!' for an app.

My posts were just another of the OT asides that even the nicest threads can generate. No-one despises you for not being up with the subtleties of gender in other languages. Had it been a language with three genders, just think of the extra possibilities for discourse ...

I could have remained neutral. :)

I think the name "unimportant" has a nice ring to it! ;)

Wouldn't a browser that did not import be somewhat handicapped?

de

Do you want "United Nation's international movement of formicidae"?

I kind of like da liddle chiz myself. :)

Or we could go post-modern and call it not cheese.

I by no means wish to discourage the effort by being overly pessimistic or skeptical, but it is rather silly to come up with anything other than code names at this stage. For none of us know when or if this fine idea will actually become a working and usable piece of software. Keep in mind that we do not even have an alpha version to test yet.

(a) "browser6" is the project I'm working on, I'm interested in all these other projects, they sound quite cool.

( B) a unit testing drop has now been made.

I don't want to raise anyones expectations. I have this ( what I have done so far ) running smoothly on

Classic, System 6.0.8, MacTCP 2.0.6.

it is compiled with THINK C 5.0, project included.

When I compile it with latest MPW, it does run on System 9.

This is not for the faint hearted, it's for the curious and the helpful!

TetrisMaster512 claims he is getting unimplemented traps. Can people post bug reports directly here? May I suggest people install MacsBugs, it may give some clues to the errors.

Ironing out bugs early is more important than continuing adding the features.

If only Apple knew that back in '95. :p

I need to install MacTCP and I will see how that turns out.

Road map:

1. sort out this trapping issue.

2. get basic text shown in correct window pane

3. get formatted text shown

4. get stylings (bold, italics etc) correct

5. embedded URL links

6. embedded graphics

7. tables, lists etc

8. buttons

9. edit fields and forms

10. cookies

So there is still quite a bit to do.

Already done, with 1 bit, monochrome graphics on 512 x 384 nobody can work out what the picture is anyway. Actually somebody looking over your shoulder has a better chance of working out what the picture is than the user.

I only think he was being half-sarcastic. A built in proxy would be epic.

What do you mean? I support HTTP proxy servers, if that's what you mean.

I mean something like Tor.
