They're USB too? not that awkward minijack!??! ah man I have to find some of these. I like the black better too. Mine are not really white any longer and have colored scuffs, etc. Those black ring ones are so much nicer looking haha. Congrats on getting your monitor together. Those really are nice units.

The Pro Speakers are Apple Audio jack. The G4 Cube speakers are USB.

It's cool in that it's loaded (for the time) with fast SCSI and has a neato "Server" sticker on the front. Other than that, it's a pretty unremarkable 233 MHz G3 Minitower.

Haha, no ... it's a matching Power Mac G3 minitower.

I sort of figured that from the lettering, but I never realized that the curved bezel for the CD was so low. Still, it'd make a handsomely matched pair.

Although I've never seen one mounted there, I guess I don't see why you couldn't.

Another yellowed, Platinum Plus found at the dumpster. I have too many just like it but I just can't bring myself to leave these things there.

I guess that'd be the zip bezel in the top right corner of your pic. Looked like the outfeed for a LW at first glance, I still think it would have made a handsome pair.

Well if we ever get together I would love to get a few of those macs off of you. I never see macs in dumpsters, but where I'm at no to many people haven't already dumped there old computers.

Those minitowers reminds me of the work mine needs. Adding an ZIP drive to it with front bezel (taken from 9600/300, fits perfectly).

here is the 165c you can see the issue with the hinge, the rest of the laptop is almost mint.

Found a sad looking 7500 with some beefy upgrades this morning. It is ugly, dirty and the plastics on the IO area have some big chips out of them.

It fires right up and actually holds some upgrades. I found a PowerLogix G3 processor, 512 MB RAM, Sonnet Tempo ATA133 card in the PCI slot and an 18 GB, 50-pin Barracuda SCSI drive inside. The PowerLogix splash screen reports the CPU speed at 1000 MHz (?) but Mac OS 9.1's System Profiler reports it at 557 MHz. Not sure why they are different but it is a PowerForce 750GX G3 1 GHz processor with 1 MB cache. Maybe I'll try installing the PowerLogix software.

They are so cool because you can load them up with ram, upgrade the cpu, and they have PCI slots.

also i appreciate the built in 10bT , no adaptors needed, but have AAUI as well if needed.

Also I use the TV in, with my Apple II, then i don't have to lug a monitor around.

It's been a while since I picked up any hardware as its mostly been restore discs recently along with some trades for a PowerBook 165c and an LC II.

But today my friend told me he had a little surprise for me. When I dropped by, he dropped a pair of these bad boys on me

Honestly, I don't know what those are. Are they, (pause for a second) joysticks? I don't ever remember seeing those. Nice nab with the 165c. How are hinges and plastics on it?

They're paddle input devices. All sorts of games used paddle controllers back then (the Atari 2600 came with paddles and joysticks). The paddle control was really popularized by Pong (and later on Breakout!).

Oh, ok. I thought they were joysticks but they certain don't look like it!

Very nice. Those are much better constructed than the original black ones. The button is quite horrible on the older one.

Hey sorry if you've answered this but I'm just wondering; do you tend to keep most of the stuff you acquire in working order, or shelve it for long term storage and display, or some third option I'm too drunk to currently identify?

I guess my point is that I've noticed you have a wonderful collection. I'm wondering what a day in the life of someone who is actively acquiring and storing all this cool stuff.

Unless its a lost cause or bought for parts, I'll restore to original configuration and running condition. Capacitors, Retrobrite and other repairs get made. Because of the amount of machines there are, I have to keep most of in my storage room at work (we have several unused rooms and I staked a claim to one). It keeps the where the temperature is controlled and out of sun or fluorescent light. I have maybe ten or so out and about at the office. Once I feel it's finished, I'll snap some shots and put it in the gallery at applefool.com

I used to love the way Dana would restore pics of her old Macs to a glory they'd never had in real life with Photoshop, but I really love the approach you've taken of restoring, photographing and then storing the real deal.
