About

Lun is a fan-made Marathon netmap by Jason Parsons ("arakasi"), distributed through the Info-Mac archive's Marathon community in the late 1990s. The level is a love letter to Lunatic Fringe, the classic asteroids-style mini-game tucked inside the Duke Nukem 3D screensaver, rebuilt as an arena for Bungie's pioneering Mac shooter.

What it is

A standalone netmap file, dropped into Marathon's Maps folder and chosen from the multiplayer level list. It is geometry, lighting and item placement only — Lun does not modify the engine, weapons or sprites of the host game.

Lunatic Fringe homage

The layout reinterprets the open, wraparound feel of Lunatic Fringe inside Marathon's right-angle world: long sightlines, light cover, and pickup placement that rewards constant motion rather than camping a corridor.

Supported game types

The map is tuned for two of Marathon's classic free-for-all modes, Every Man for Himself and King of the Hill. Team modes are not the design target.

Author and distribution

Released as freeware by Jason Parsons (arakasi@superstore.com) and mirrored under info-mac/game/com/mthn/ as lun.hqx alongside dozens of other community Marathon maps from the same era.
