This package is the official Macintosh updater for Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, LucasArts' 1992 SCUMM-engine point-and-click adventure ported to the Mac in the early 1990s. It brings a stock retail install up to the revision LucasArts shipped to address compatibility issues on later System 7 and Mac OS hardware.
What the patch addresses
The updater patches the SCUMM interpreter and resource loader used by the Mac build, smoothing playback of the game's animated cutscenes and audio on Macs newer than the original release targets.
The underlying game
Fate of Atlantis is a full-length SCUMM adventure starring Indiana Jones in a 1939 search for the lost city, written as an original story rather than a film tie-in, with three branching paths through the middle act.
SCUMM on the Mac
LucasArts' Mac SCUMM titles are essentially the DOS data files driven by a Mac-native interpreter; updaters like this one patch the interpreter without touching the cross-platform game data.
Installation notes
Apply the updater on top of an installed retail copy of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Keep a copy of the original application before patching, and do not apply the updater against the floppy demo or the Special Edition CD.
