Eagles Nest is a fan-made scenario for the Macintosh port of Wolfenstein 3D, the id Software first-person shooter that arrived on the Mac in 1994. Mac Wolfenstein 3D was unusual for its time in shipping with a scenario format that let players load entirely new map sets, and a small community grew up around producing add-on episodes like this one.
What a scenario is
The Mac release of Wolfenstein 3D introduced a scenario file that could replace the stock map set with a new campaign of levels. Scenarios reuse the original engine and art but supply fresh layouts, encounters, and progression.
The setting
The Eagle's Nest is the popular nickname for Adolf Hitler's Alpine retreat, a setting often used in WWII shooters. Mac Wolf3D scenarios with this name task the player with infiltrating and destroying the bunker complex from the inside out.
Requirements
Requires a working installation of Macintosh Wolfenstein 3D as the host engine. Like the base game, it runs on classic Mac OS on 68k and PowerPC hardware.
Preservation context
Mac Wolfenstein 3D scenarios are preserved on Macintosh Garden alongside the base game and the larger collections of community map authors such as Laz Rojas.
