SkinShrinker is a free drag-and-drop Macintosh utility from Cherie Benoit (Bangsplat, 2002) that renames character skin files for The Sims. Most user-created Sims meshes circulating online had filenames too long for the Mac version of the game, so SkinShrinker rewrites CMX, SKN, and BMP files to make them Mac-compatible.
What it does
The tool edits the filenames embedded inside CMX, SKN, and BMP skin files so the Mac edition of The Sims can load custom content originally produced for the longer-filename PC version. Files are processed by simple drag-and-drop onto the application icon.
Unleashed expansion support
Version 1.3.1 adds support for the cat and dog skins introduced by The Sims: Unleashed expansion pack, broadening the kinds of custom content Mac players can install.
Requirements
SkinShrinker is a PowerPC-native application requiring Mac OS X or Mac OS 8.6 or later (with CarbonLib 1.1 or higher). It is distributed free of charge.
